The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program provides individuals who have limited English proficiency a variety of English language learning opportunities in order to improve their English skills. Intermediate to advanced coursework is available and is provided in classroom and project-based learning environments. This program is progress-based to ensure proper instructional level and pace for success. Individuals who are looking to increase their English language proficiency level to enter or advance in the workforce or who are planning on continuing on to higher education or career/ technical education are encouraged to apply.

The Rochester EOC Medical Administrative Assistant Program prepares students to work in a variety of medical office setting. Students are prepared with a basic foundation in computer skills, anatomy, and medical terminology. Students are able to perform the clerical tasks required of medical assistants and have the ability to work directly with patients as may be required. Program coursework includes topics in: Medical Terminology, Medical Billing and Coding, Keyboarding, Microsoft® Office software, Filing, Customer Service.

The HSE GED Preparation Program at REOC is designed to prepare students to pass the GED®. The program instruction and class structure is based on the various achieve levels of the students. With at least five enrollment periods throughout the year and classes that run throughout the day, the HSE Preparation Program can accommodate a wide range of life styles and situations. If you passed any New York State Regents exams before you left high school a GED® could be in your hands much sooner than ever before! The GED® is the test New York State now uses to determine who gets a High School Equivalency diploma. In order to earn a GED® you must pass Math, Science, Writing, Social Studies and Reading. New rules now allow you to use scores from ANY New York State Regents test you may have taken and passed at ANY time before you left school! The Child Development Associate is a National Credentialing program that provides instruction to individuals interested in working within the early childhood field. It is a comprehensive training program that encompasses all aspects of the fundamentals of child growth and development. The Rochester EOC program allows individuals the opportunity to complete all eligibility and documentation requirements needed to obtain CDA certification: 120 hours of early childhood education, 480 hours of experience working with children, and the Professional Resource File. The CDA program features Preschool, Infant/Toddler, Family Child Care, and Bilingual Certifications, while offering outstanding opportunities to obtain employment in the early childhood field.

The Nurse Assistant is an active and valued member of a health care team. CNAs help the nurse in providing care for the resident/patient. The Rochester EOC CNA training is provided through instructor-led theory and textbook instruction, lab training, and clinical practice. Students become certified after successful completion of both the Nursing Assistant program and the New York State Prometric Examination. Program graduates often use this program as a stepping stone to further nursing education.

ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification is the standard in food safety training and certifications. The program will assist the student with understanding how to keep food safe, contamination/allergens/foodborne illnesses; purchasing, receiving, storing, preparing and serving food; food safety management systems; safe facilities, equipment, cleaning, sanitizing, pest management, regulations and staff food safety. The goal of the program is to prepare students to take and pass the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Exam.

The Sterile Processing Technician program prepares individuals for the field of Sterile Processing and Central Service Supply. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for many vital services within an operating room, health facility, decontamination room, sterile supply, etc. Responsibilities include: Decontamination procedures, Preparation and packaging for sterilization, Monitoring the process of steam, Ethylene Oxide, dry heat, and liquid chemical sterilization, Maintaining product sterility, Storage distribution, inspection, and inventory control of supplies, instruments, and equipment.

8 HOUR PRE-ASSIGNMENT TRAINING COURSE FOR SECURITY GUARDS The Security Guard Act of 1992 mandates that all private security trainers must be certified. All security guards are required to complete an 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Program prior to applying to the Department of State for a Security Guard Registration Card. REOC’s Security Guard Training is designed to provide the 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Program so that successfully completing students are trained and approved to apply for the Department of State for a Security Guard Registration Card.

16 HOUR ON-THE-JOB TRAINING COURSE FOR SECURITY GUARDS All security guards must complete a 16-hour course within 90 days of employment as a security guard. The course provides the student with detailed information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Students must have successfully completed the 8-hour Pre-Assignment Security Guard training before registering for this course. Students must attend 100 percent of the course hours and pass a written examination in order to pass the course and to earn the certificate. Materials will be provided by the instructor.

8 HOUR ANNUAL IN-SERVICE TRAINING COURSE FOR SECURITY GUARDS This is an 8-hour course that must be completed within 12 calendar months from completion of the 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Program for Security Guards, and annually thereafter. The course is structured to provide the student with updated and enhanced information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct.

The Rochester EOC Barbering program will expose individuals to all aspects of barbering through 580 hours of lecture, practice demonstration, computer-based instruction, practical and theory worksheets with illustrations and client work. The Barbering instruction is delivered by Masters Barbers who are also business owners. Their diverse presentation provides a broad learning experience with updated application in the profession of barbering. Upon completion of a seven-month curriculum, students will receive a Barber HIV Certificate of Completion and will be well-prepared to take the New York State Board Examination to be licensed as a Master Barber.

Train to answer emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, and emergency medical services and to efficiently relay the information to dispatchers. Gain an understanding of the working environment which includes: the stress of daily contact with life and death situations, sitting for long periods including times with little call activity, having to remain calm and in control when speaking to people who are in highly stressful situations, strictly adhering to rules and regulations, working in a closely supervised and evaluated environment.

Rochester EOC’s Culinary Arts program is designed to give students a basic but diverse experience in today’s food service establishments and is designed for adults looking for a career change or a fresh start in the restaurant industry. Training will include hands-on experience in the kitchen. The focus will be on basic fundamentals of the industry along with building knowledge of the fashionable trends in the culinary industry. In the classroom, students will learn computer skills, workforce job skills and résumé writing. Upon graduation from the program, students will be able to fill positions at entry level and mid-entry levels having learned team player philosophy to support being comfortable and confident in acquiring a job. The Culinary Arts program features state-of-the-art kitchen facilities, award-winning culinary instructors and small class size/personal attention.

Phlebotomy technicians are critical team members in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, and blood donor centers. As new types of tests are developed and laboratory tech positions grow, it’s an especially exciting time to begin a career in this thriving field. Some tasks phlebotomy technicians may perform include:

• Drawing blood from patients and blood donors
• Evaluating patients’ ability to withstand the procedure and helping them feel comfortable
• Explaining the blood-drawing procedure to patients and answering questions
• Performing basic point-of-care testing, such as reading blood glucose levels Preparing blood, urine, and other specimens for testing
• Maintaining medical equipment such as needles, test tubes, and blood vials

The Phlebotomy program provides individuals with the knowledge of venipuncture and other phlebotomy-related terminology. Participants will learn, practice and develop performance skills in a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and universal precautions. Topics for learning include:

• vacuum collection devices
• syringes
• capillary skin puncture
• butterfly needles
• blood culture
• specimen collection on adults, children and infants.

There is a program emphasis on infection prevention, proper patient identification, labeling of specimen and quality assurance, specimen handling, processing, and accessioning. Professionalism, ethics, and medical terminology complete the course curriculum.

The Certified Pharmacy Technician class offered by Rochester Educational Opportunity Center (REOC) in New York is a comprehensive training program designed to help individuals obtain the skills necessary to become a CPhT. The program provides students with hands-on, real-world experience in medical and pharmacy settings, as well as comprehensive book and online course materials to assist in preparation for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination. Upon completion of the program, students will be well-prepared for a career as a Certified

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) class offered by the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center (REOC) in New York provides students with the necessary education and training to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. This program is designed to teach students the fundamentals of nursing and medical terminology, as well as the ability to provide quality patient care. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
