8 HOUR PRE-ASSIGNMENT TRAINING COURSE FOR SECURITY GUARDS The Security Guard Act of 1992 mandates that all private security trainers must be certified. All security guards are required to complete an 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Program prior to applying to the Department of State for a Security Guard Registration Card. REOC’s Security Guard Training is designed to provide the 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Program so that successfully completing students are trained and approved to apply for the Department of State for a Security Guard Registration Card.

16 HOUR ON-THE-JOB TRAINING COURSE FOR SECURITY GUARDS All security guards must complete a 16-hour course within 90 days of employment as a security guard. The course provides the student with detailed information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Students must have successfully completed the 8-hour Pre-Assignment Security Guard training before registering for this course. Students must attend 100 percent of the course hours and pass a written examination in order to pass the course and to earn the certificate. Materials will be provided by the instructor.

8 HOUR ANNUAL IN-SERVICE TRAINING COURSE FOR SECURITY GUARDS This is an 8-hour course that must be completed within 12 calendar months from completion of the 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Program for Security Guards, and annually thereafter. The course is structured to provide the student with updated and enhanced information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct.
