The Transportation and Supply Chain Management program prepares students for jobs in the transportation and supply chain management industries. Emphasis is placed on supply chain logistics, commercial, freight, and maritime transportation systems. The Transportation and Supply Chain Management program provides a pathway for students to fill a workforce gap in the transportation, distribution, maritime and supply chain management industries. Students will have the options to obtain academic experience and industry credentials for their careers in the pivotal Maritime, Transportation, and Supply Chain industries. Courses in the program qualify students to transfer to a Bachelor of Science degree program in transportation or civil engineering at a four-year College or university.
The Cyber Security and Assurance Program at BCCC emphasizes the need to build a wall between our private information and those who seek to exploit it. Recurring events such as virus, worms, and online attacks committed by hackers or other cyber criminals, have revealed weaknesses in current information technologies and the need to heighten the security of these critical systems. Students will gain practical experience in understanding threats and dangers, assessing security and analyzing a wide range of businesses, and the steps needed to mitigate these vulnerabilities through state-of-the-art technology. The program prepares students for vendor-specific or commercially available security certification. NSA-CAE in Cyber Defense, CAE-CD.
This certificate course of study prepares a graduate for employment in a hospital, or a related healthcare setting, analyzing charts in order to assign codes using the ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and DSM V-TR classification systems. Graduates are also able to use computer software encoders to obtain codes; the Medicare DRG, APR groupers for inpatients; and the APC grouper for assigning APCs for reimbursement. Students gain practice in coding a variety of medical specialties and problems on acute care, ambulatory and long-term care patients. Every coding course requires a mandatory lab. This program can be completed by taking web-based and virtual online classes. While this certificate requires only 39 credits, it takes three or four semesters to complete because of course prerequisites. Students who complete the requirements earn the certificate as a Coding Specialist. Graduates are eligible to take the certification examinations administered by the American Health Information Management Association. Passing the entry-level exam entitles the student to use the initial CCA (Certified Coding Associate).
The A.A. Degree in Communication is designed to help students transfer to colleges and universities that offer a baccalaureate degree with a major in Speech Communication, Communication Studies, or a related field. Students will develop their writing, speaking and critical thinking skills. The program includes courses in speech and other types of human communication, in addition to courses in media, news writing, reporting, and editing. The Communication program is designed to help meet the needs of the workforce development and job training for Baltimore City residents by providing coursework leading to an Associate Degree. This lays the academic pathway for Bachelor’s degrees, enabling students to find work in jobs such as: copywriter, journalist, market research analyst, media analyst, lobbyist, film director, speechwriter, press agent, technical writer, news anchor, public relations specialist, corporate Communication manager.
Business program students have the option to concentrate in Business Marketing or Business Management. Over the last few decades, the drafting, design, and manufacturing industries have become heavily computerized. The Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) programs offered by BCCC are structured to prepare a segment of the workforce to compete for jobs in these industries. The CADD Engineering Technology certificate program prepares students with the skills necessary to become engineering and architectural drafters. Students are prepared to qualify for jobs where CADD associates work as the important CADD link in the modern design process with engineers and architects on one hand and detail drafters and manufacturers on the other hand. Emphasis is on engineering drawing, architectural drawing, engineering design, and realistic 3D modeling.

The Computer Information Systems program emphasizes business computer program design and development. Practical experience is gained in networking, databases, programming applications, and securing IT infrastructure. The Information Technology Basic Skills Certificate has been designed using existing courses from BCCC’s Computer Information Systems degree in response to discussions with the external stakeholders. It is a stackable certificate that will allow students to continue pursuit of a degree in information technology.
The Respiratory Care program leads to an Associate or Applied Science degree. Graduates are qualified to provide respiratory care under the direction of a licensed physician in settings such as acute care hospitals, intensive care units, skilled nursing facilities, physician’s offices and home care agencies. Skills you will learn: * Identification, location and function of lung structures involved in gas exchange * Normal/healthy lung function and causes and effects of lung dysfunction * Obtain & interpret arterial blood gases * Provide and properly assess procedures and techniques Graduates are qualified to sit for the National Board for Respiratory Care credentialing examinations that will allow them to practice in Maryland and all other states. Graduates are eligible to earn all credentials offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care. The Respiratory Care program at Baltimore City Community College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
Students in the Special Education Assistant Certificate Program prepare for careers working with exceptional children in Baltimore City and area schools, hospitals, and clinics. Students acquire a foundation in human development and become experienced in working with exceptional children in educational settings, providing practical fieldwork. Many students in the Early Childhood Education degree program also earn this Special Education certificate in order to expand their job opportunities.
The American Sign Language/Deaf Studies transfer degree will provide students with thorough preparation in cultural competency and conversation-level fluency to complete bachelor’s and master’s level training for a variety of careers. Graduates can choose to pursue further training to become ASL interpreters or go on to use ASL in fields such as social work, deaf education, audiology, speech pathology, business administration, hospitality, education, and more. Students may also elect to take ASL courses to fulfill a general education requirement. The Deaf community in the Baltimore City and surrounding areas have a demonstrated need for professional services provided by individuals fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). The product of these needs result in ASL interpreter, social, or educational services. Graduates of the program will have the ASL skills and cultural competencies for serving the Baltimore Deaf community and beyond.
The Maryland Teacher Certification Pathway is a nondegree, non-certificate conferring course of study. It is offered through Baltimore City Community College to individuals who already possess a bachelor’s degree and are interested in meeting Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) teacher certification requirements. MSDE recognizes courses taken at Baltimore City Community College as meeting state certification requirements. Since certification requirements differ, based on specialty area and differences in specific student educational histories, all students are strongly urged to seek advising from the program coordinator before registering for courses. The current trend toward comprehensive and unified delivery of human services and the need for workers who can function in a variety of human services situations are reflected in BCCC’s combining classroom instruction and clinical/fieldwork experiences. Thus, students are able to bridge the gap between academic theory and the real world of social services work. Students study an Allied Human Services core in which they receive the special instruction and career foundation courses needed for such fields as social work, mental health therapy, counseling, gerontology, social and behavioral sciences, law enforcement, government service, education, and community and planning. The BCCC course-of-study is designed to be flexible enough to fit each student’s career goals. The Allied Human Services program gives students the foundation to help clients identify resources and benefits that improve their quality of life. Students also earn credits that transfer to university undergraduate degree programs in human service fields.
Students in the Teacher Education Transfer program begin training to become teachers and have opportunities to explore the diverse world of education and ways to work effectively within it. This curriculum is designed for students who are interested in transferring to an Elementary Education program at a four-year college and who may not be eligible to complete the requirements of the A.A.T. degree. While this curriculum is designed to prepare students to pursue a bachelor’s degree program at the college or university level, students are advised to check the requirements of the institution to which they intend to transfer. Candidates for graduation in this program must pay for and take the ETS National Teacher Examination: PRAXIS I test before graduation. Upon completion of this program, students may apply for State License to work as a Paraprofessional in Local State Educational Agencies. Paraprofessionals and Teacher Assistants perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or parents. Those who go on to earn advanced degrees become classroom teachers. Candidates for graduation in this program must pay for and take the: PRAXIS I test before graduation. The Biotechnology program provides in-depth knowledge and laboratory benchwork at our state-of-the-art facility located at the University of Maryland BioPark, to prepare students to work in the biotechnology field. These programs also include an internship component for students to acquire real life experiences. The Lab Animal Sciences Certificate is aligned with the American Association of Laboratory Animal Sciences and is the only lab animal certificate program offered in the state of Maryland. Credits earned in the Biotechnology Lab and Lab Animal certificates are stackable to the Biotechnology Associate degree. Biotechnology Associate degree credits can transfer to bachelor’s programs in Biology, Biotechnology and Medical Research Technology in universities and four-year colleges in and outside Maryland. This program is located at the University of Maryland Baltimore campus at UM BioPark.
The degree program in Cybersecurity Digital Forensics at BCCC emphasizes content to perform forensic investigations, incident handling, and conduct incident investigations. Students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to execute forensic investigations of networks, hosts, and mobile devices. This includes using standard computer forensics and evidence handling techniques to collect, process, review, analyze and produce electronic evidence. Successful completion of the courses in this certificate prepares a student for the Cyber Incident Responder exam sponsored by the Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3), National Centers of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence (CDFAE) program. Students also have the option to complete exam preparations, leading to a variety of related certifications.
The Pure & Applied Mathematics program offers a 60-credit sequentially tiered course work that provides students the opportunity to master conceptual, theoretical, and technical mathematical skills. The program helps students transfer to a college or university that offers a baccalaureate degree with a major in mathematics. This transfer program ensures that all transfer requirements are up to date with other higher education institutions. The courses included in the program qualify students to transfer as a junior to Bachelor of Science degree programs at a four-year college or university. Advanced mathematics includes learning mathematical principles, analyzing data, and solving real-world problems. Students pursue a wide range of occupations.
The General Studies degree program provides a flexible, yet academically sound framework for the student who is exploring career and academic opportunities; or for the student whose interests, aptitude, and career goals do not conform with other programs offered by the College. In the first year, the student’s academic program consists of those courses which meet the College’s General Education Requirements, and elective courses which may be for career or academic exploration. This first year affords the student the opportunity to participate in the breadth of the academic offerings of the College. At the end of the first year, or upon completion of 30 to 34 credits, the student and his/her academic adviser then develop an academic plan for a career or technical program. The General Studies Transfer degree is designed for students who wants to explore other educational programs that are not offered by the College. The degree is a transfer degree that fulfills the State mandated general education requirements yet allows a student to explore other areas of interest through elective courses. The degree prepares a student for transfer to a four-year institution. It may, however, provide job skills for an entrylevel position into most businesses or industries.
The Office Administration program allows students to select a specialty from a variety of career programs. In addition to a common core of office administration courses and courses specific to a student’s area of interest, each program includes courses that address the non-technical skills necessary for a staff member to become part of the office team. Further, students develop skills which allow them to pursue employment opportunities at the end of any semester of study. In addition to acquiring highly specialized skills and optional certification in specific areas, students may transfer to business programs at four-year institutions.

The CADD Engineering Technology Certificate Program offers a 16-credit course work that provides students the opportunity to master the conceptual and technical skills needed to become engineering and architectural drafters. The Dental Hygiene program is a two-year, 70 credit Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program. In the final semester, students become eligible for the National Dental Hygiene Board examination and the CDCA-WREB-CITA Clinical Board Examination. Both exams are required for licensure. Working under the supervision of a licensed dentist, dental hygienists: Take medical and dental histories, Take X-rays, Remove stains and deposits and apply preventive agents to teeth, Perform non-surgical periodontal therapy. Students in the Dental Hygiene Degree program gain patient care experience at BCCC’s on-site Dental Hygiene Clinic as well as with external health care agencies.
The Correctional Administration program addresses the professional and educational needs of students interested in careers in corrections and of personnel already employed in the field who desire to increase their proficiency or to improve their professional career opportunities. Our graduates go on to work in federal, state, and county prisons, and other rewarding careers. The program enhances professional skills and prepares graduates for promotion or entry into many professional and administrative positions within corrections, intake, youth services, and others.
The Emergency Medical Services program prepares the student to become certified field clinicians. With small class sizes, this comprehensive yet innovative training provides a combination of blended learning, classroom, and hands-on training to include critical decision-making, managing sick and injured patients, scene control, and transporting patients to the hospital. After successful completion of one semester, students will be eligible to take the State and National Registry Examinations certifying them as an EMS clinician (Emergency Medical Technician). Once the student has passed the certification exam, they will be prepared for a lifetime of opportunities. Students may choose to continue to complete their Paramedic degree in a minimum of 15 months when they can use their knowledge and training for other healthcare entities such as homeland security or fire science.
