The Health Sciences A.S. degree is designed to be very customizable to allow students to select the courses that apply most directly to their individual health career paths and transfer plans. The degree requirements allow students to choose from among many different biology, math, science, and health-related classes that meet their specific career goals and academic needs. This degree provides a broader foundation in science and mathematics and is designed primarily for students seeking to transfer into medical or health science programs. Although it is primarily designed as a degree to prepare students to transfer to other colleges or universities, it may also serve students who wish to transfer into other health science programs at SUNY Broome Community College or for employment in entry-level positions in healthcare facilities.
The Visual Communication Arts program will prepare students to pursue transfer into visual communication programs at baccalaureate degree granting institutions with majors in relevant fields, including, but not limited to, graphic design, animation, fine arts, illustration, art history, interior design, art education, art therapy gaming design and fashion design. This is consistent with other AS degree programs that focus on preparing students for transfer into four-year institutions.
The Web Development and Management degree (AAS), prepares graduates for direct employment in website design and development, social media creation and campaigns, and digital marketing publications. The degree program will teach you everything you need to know about creating and maintaining attractive and functional websites, from basic web design and computer graphics skills to advanced coding languages and web authoring tools. Coursework includes responsive front-end design and development, asset creation, back-end development, content management systems, and mobile web app development. Business fundamentals are woven throughout the curriculum including ecommerce and project management.
The 100% online Hospitality Management A.A.S. degree is designed to give students a foundational education as aspiring hospitality executives and professionals. Whether the goal is to own or operate your own independent hospitality operation, or serve a commercial entity such as Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Starbucks or Texas Roadhouse, this degree is for you. Offered completely online, the Hospitality Management degree provides an asynchronous learning platform permitting the student to complete their studies any time of day from anywhere in the world where there is internet access.
Our Culinary Arts degree program provides students with the opportunity to turn their passion for the kitchen into a rewarding career, and the skills they need to directly enter the hospitality field as a chef or cook. Students will learn to master the four Ps – purchasing, preparation, presentation and profit – not only in the classroom, but with hands-on experiences that are critical in the field. Coursework includes nutrition, kitchen chemistry, hospitality law, menu merchandising and marketing, human resources and cost control and more. Many of the courses for the Culinary Arts program are offered at our new Culinary and Event Center located in downtown Binghamton. The facility – a complete renovation of the historic Carnegie Library — is a combination of the best of the old and new, featuring state-of-the-art classroom space, as well as garde manger and production kitchens, a fully equipped beverage lab for mixology classes, a full-dining room, a state-of-the-art lecture hall for cooking demonstrations, and more. The Culinary and Event Center is the premiere location to train as a professional chef.
The Criminal Justice A.A.S. program prepares students for various positions throughout the field of criminal justice, as well as to continue their education. Core courses are taught by faculty with real-world experience. The program features a blend of SUNY General Education and Liberal Arts requirements along with technical coursework specific to criminal justice. This program promotes critical thinking, professionalism, ethical responsibility, and examines current issues surrounding the criminal justice system. With specific advisement, and through articulation agreements, the program also prepares students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related programs.
The S.T.E.M. – Environmental Science Associate in Science major is intended to appeal to a broad audience of students who are interested in four-year degrees in the Environmental Sciences. This program meets the college’s mission by providing a University parallel degree for students aspiring to baccalaureate degrees and professions. The program also meets the college’s mission by fulfilling a broad range of General Education Requirements (GERs) intended to “broaden and deepen students’ intellectual, moral, civic, and social competence for effective participation in the world community.” Lastly, the program provides career advising, skills, and knowledge assessment related to jobs and programs that fall under the umbrella of environmental sciences.
The mission of the Office Technology Certificate program is to prepare students for administrative careers that require a solid foundation in information technology such as business application specialist, keyboard specialist, social media manager, graphic design application specialist, web content editor, through the use of innovative teaching methods, diverse modes of instruction, flexibility of course selections, and the inclusion of 21st century workplace skills. The Office Technology program allows students to combine core office technology skills with business or additional computing skills. It prepares students for careers as administrative assistants, secretaries, computer application specialists or program coordinators, or for civil service office positions. The mission of the Computer Security and Forensics program is to prepare students to work in the field as a skilled computer security expert to meet the growing need in our society to keep information safe and accessible through focused study on hardware, software, networking, remote access, and cryptographic systems. Students will obtain the ability to analyze and investigate security breaches, perform forensic analysis, identify and prevent potential weaknesses in network configurations, respond to computer and network incidents and establish policies and procedures within legal guidelines to protect companies. By providing students with small class sizes, attentive faculty, and dynamic courses, students will be equipped with the analytic and investigative tools and the legal and ethical knowledge necessary to be employed to help any business prevent security breaches or recover from criminal activity.
The Homeland Security & Emergency Management A.S. program prepares students for positions in fields such as homeland security, emergency management, and criminal justice, in both government and private organizations. Courses are taught by faculty with real-world experience. The program features a blend of SUNY General Education and Liberal Arts requirements, along with coursework specific to homeland security, emergency management, criminal justice, and fire science. The AAS in Paralegal Studies prepares graduates to become paralegals and legal assistants. Paralegals are highly skilled paraprofessionals who work closely with attorneys, judges, prosecutors or public defenders. They work under the supervision of an attorney interviewing clients, investigating facts, drafting documents and researching the law. The paralegal professional enjoys a wide variety of assignments, projects and functions. Some paralegals specialize in certain areas such as civil litigation, real estate, corporate law or estate planning. Paralegals can find positions in various organizations such as large corporations, insurance companies, private law firms, banks, district attorney offices, real estate agencies, title companies, courts and government agencies. The Radiologic Technology program of SUNY Broome offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree which graduates competent entry-level, registry eligible Radiologic Technologists. As a Radiologic Technologist, you’ll be on the cutting edge of scientific progress, working with the latest advances in medical care. You’ll also be a member of a growing profession, as the number of medical imaging examinations performed in the United States increases every year. Opportunities to advance within the field are expanding as well. Whether you consider yourself technically adept or not, you will be comfortable studying radiologic technology. That’s because the field is part science, and part art. Part of your coursework at SUNY Broome will include subjects such as anatomy, biology, mathematical literacy II, radiation safety, image analysis, equipment, and physics. You’ll learn to use computers to acquire and manipulate images, and you’ll work with some of the most technologically advanced equipment in the medical field. You will also learn to communicate with patients, solve problems and work with other members of the healthcare team, including doctors, nurses and experienced radiologic technologists. During this part of your education in the clinical setting, you’ll have a hands-on opportunity to practice your patient care skills and fine-tune your technical knowledge. You will develop skills that allow you to provide patient care that is accurate as well as compassionate. A career in radiologic technology can lead in many directions. The Certificate in Website Development & Management combines HTML/CSS/JavaScript programming with visual design and marketing savvy, enabling students to create and manage attractive and functional websites. The program emphasizes the basic principles of web design and development and teaches the techniques that will allow you to use multimedia content for web based mobile apps, social media, and commercial websites. The Certificate in Website Development & Management is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level positions such as: Web content manager, Social media content developer, Web designer, Web front end developer, Web administrator, Graphic designer.
The Human Services A.S. degree is designed to provide the first two years of academic coursework for students transferring to baccalaureate programs in social work, counseling, and human services in preparation for entry-level employment in the human services field in various public and private organizations and settings. The Human Services Program is committed to educating undergraduate students to serve diverse populations as future human service providers and to maximize the advancement of students’ personal and professional development through academic experiences that foster interpersonal and critical thinking skills, cultural competency, and the professional knowledge and skills attainment required for professions in human services. The AS in Business: Business Administration will prepare you for transfer to a four-year college or university, where you can finish your bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, management, marketing or another business area. Ultimately, your studies will prepare you to work in a variety of settings, including big and small businesses, government, healthcare and non-profit organizations.
The Business Administration program in International Business is a sequence of courses with a global emphasis in Business and Liberal Arts that leads to the Associate in Science degree. The program is designed primarily to prepare the student for transfer to four-year schools although some students do seek employment immediately after graduation. The SUNY Broome Department of Business has transfer agreements with many universities which ensure graduates full junior status at the upper division school. Credits earned in the International Business major easily transfer to four-year colleges and students may continue their studies in International Business or other Business and non-business majors.
The mission of A.A.S. in Business: Marketing, Management and Sales program is to provide opportunities to earn academic credentials based on student interests, talents, and capabilities that will prepare students for careers in business. The program will prepare you for entry-level positions in a wide-range of fields, from sales, marketing and promotion to management, retailing, advertising, human resources and related areas. All students receive a broad base of knowledge in accounting, business law, marketing and management, and are able to apply their classroom knowledge through internships. Students interested in transferring for a four- year degree in business are advised to work closely and early with a SUNY Broome transfer counselor.
The Computer Information Systems program consists of a broad spectrum of courses in the information systems and information technology fields. Upon completion of the required courses, the student will receive an Associate in Applied Science and be ready for immediate employment. Core courses give the student a strong foundation in applications programming, networking, database systems, productivity software, Internet programming, system security and systems analysis. Students can also select a variety of CST and/or BUS electives to suit their interests. Students can attend full-time or part-time. Courses may be offered during the day or online. Students seeking immediate employment will find opportunities in a variety of organizations as application programmers/analysts, computer operators, database specialists or IT support. Students planning to transfer should seek the advice of the department chairperson and the transfer institution. Students can potentially pursue transfer to Bachelor of Science programs in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or Information Technology.
The mission of the Dental Hygiene program is designed to prepare graduates who meet the requirements for an A.A.S. degree and are prepared to take regional and national licensure examinations. The curriculum prepares students for practice in accordance with the New York State Dental Practice Act and to enter the profession as a competent entry-level dental hygienist.
The Early Childhood program leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree and is designed to prepare graduates for immediate employment or to enhance the skills and advancement opportunities of those already employed. Some Early Childhood Education courses may meet requirements for the Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials.
The AAS in Paramedic prepares students to administer the highest level of pre-hospital care to patients in emergency situations. Graduates are prepared for careers as emergency medical technicians and become eligible to sit for the NYS examination for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P). The program is a collaborative effort between SUNY Broome and Lourdes Hospital. Lourdes Hospital is the NYS Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Services Training Sponsor. The Lourdes Hospital Paramedic Program is delivered at SUNY Broome Community College. The paramedic A.A.S. course sequence includes classroom, hands-on skill development, hospital clinical experience, and field internships. The program includes courses required for admission to the New York State Department of Health Paramedic certification exam. The curriculum is segmented into small courses. Courses are scheduled afternoons and evenings, meeting three times a week. The program can be completed over 2 years, with one summer semester. Qualified students, with the approval of the Program Director may design a customized full-time or part-time program. Students may be able to sit for the NYS Paramedic exam in 12 months. The program follows the national standard curriculum determined by the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration, and requires a minimum of 600 classroom hours, 560 hospital clinical hours and 440 hours of ambulance ride time. Students are eligible to take the New York State Paramedic practical and written exams upon successful completion of all PMD courses (9) and Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology or Anatomy & Physiology I or II.
SUNY Broome's Computer Technology A.A.S. Degree program prepares you for immediate employment in technical environments where knowledge of the interface between hardware and software is necessary. Courses include networks, hardware maintenance, VR applications, and security. Upon graduation, you could be employed as a computer operator, technician/programmer or engineering aide, and work on protecting network data flow and integrity, or on large software projects. Or, you might work directly with digital devices such as microprocessors and computer interfaces for sensors and controllers. Less emphasis is placed on mathematics and more on computer hardware, digital logic, microprocessors, and VR. Students can potentially transfer to Bachelor of Science programs in Applied Computing, Computer and Information Science, or Computer Science. Students planning to transfer should seek the advice of the department chairperson and the transfer institution.
The Sports Management program is a sequence of courses in Sports Management, general Business, and general education that leads to an Associate in Science degree in Sports Management. The program is designed to transfer to four year institutions to continue study in Sports Management.

The mission of the Mathematics A.S. is to prepare students for transfer into a 4-year Mathematics program by providing a substantial foundation in the concepts and techniques of mathematics, including single- and multi-variable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and statistics or higher mathematics as the student chooses. With courses offered by expert faculty, and supported by a Math Lab for tutoring assistance, options to choose electives of interest and the ability to complete SUNY General Education requirements, students will be well-prepared to successfully transfer into a baccalaureate program.
The Paramedic Certificate program prepares students to enter the field as a New York State certified paramedic by meeting the objectives of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and New York State Department of Health (DOH). This program prepares students to take the NYS DOH Paramedic exam. This program promotes critical thinking, professionalism, and ethical responsibility by providing a diverse and rich classroom and clinical experience.
The mission of the Liberal Arts and Sciences: Science A.S. Program is to prepare students for successful transfer to baccalaureate institutions, by providing a dynamic, interdisciplinary, university-parallel track to intellectual inquiry both in and out of the science field. The Security Guard class offered by SUNY Broome Community College (SBCC) located in Binghamton, NY is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a competent security guard. This class covers topics such as safety and security, loss prevention, legal issues, and customer service. The Medical Assisting Program at SUNY Broome Community College had a 90% job placement rate for the 2021 graduates.
The most versatile of health professionals, medical assistants work in physicians’ offices, medical centers, clinics, hospitals, laboratories and more. Our program will prepare you to do administrative, clinical and laboratory tasks, as well as give you firsthand experience in the work world.
Medical Assistants are trained to perform tasks in three major areas of the medical office: 1) administrative tasks, including medical transcription, insurance billing and coding, and medical record maintenance, 2) patient care tasks, including taking patient histories and vital signs, and 3) assisting with the performance of diagnostic procedures and treatments, and basic laboratory testing, including the collection and performance of waived laboratory tests. The Medical Assistant program includes an Externship Preparation Orientation period and a 12-week externship working experience in a physician’s office or other health care facility.
This program is designed for students planning to enter the workforce immediately, and for those looking to upgrade skills or change direction. It awards the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree and prepares you for transfer to a four-year college if you choose to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the CMA certification examination. Medical assistants can demonstrate their knowledge and commitment to professionalism by earning the CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) credential.
