This course is held in 2 co-requisite portions, a classroom (Didactic/Lab) portion and a Clinical Practicum portion. This course covers the preparatory, airway, and medical units of the Initial Paramedic program. Students will complete online interactive lectures, classroom-focused lectures, and individual skill labs. Upon completion of all parts, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and affective behavior of a competent entry-level AEMT. Students will then be eligible to test for North Carolina AEMT certification and National Registry AEMT. Completion of all courses does not constitute a license to practice. Course content is based upon the 2021 National EMS Education Standard in conjunction with the State of North Carolina approved EMS protocols, policies, procedures, skills, and medicine formulary. Successful students who pass the state or national certification test are prepared for immediate employment in emergency services and may choose to go on to complete the AEMT to Paramedic Bridge or EMT Paramedic certification.
