This course is held in 2 co-requisite portions, a classroom (Didactic/Lab) portion and a Clinical Practicum portion. This course covers the preparatory, airway, and medical units of the Initial Paramedic program. Students will complete online interactive lectures, classroom-focused lectures, and individual skill labs. Upon completion of all parts, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and affective behavior of a competent entry-level AEMT. Students will then be eligible to test for North Carolina AEMT certification and National Registry AEMT. Completion of all courses does not constitute a license to practice. Course content is based upon the 2021 National EMS Education Standard in conjunction with the State of North Carolina approved EMS protocols, policies, procedures, skills, and medicine formulary. Successful students who pass the state or national certification test are prepared for immediate employment in emergency services and may choose to go on to complete the AEMT to Paramedic Bridge or EMT Paramedic certification.

This course provides theory and clinical experiences needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing.

Emphasis is placed on ethics, legalities, medical terminology, safety and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, patient relations, anatomy and physiology, and specimen collection. Upon completion, students should be able to safely perform procedures necessary for specimen collections on patients in various health care settings and may be eligible for national certification as a phlebotomy technician through the American Medical Technologist (AMT).

Course includes a clinical component for 120 hours.  Hours for clincial are Monday-Friday; 8:00-5:00 p.m. for three weeks.  You must be able to complete clinical at the time assigned in order to successfully pass this course.

This 24-hour course meets the training requirements necessary for current NC Nursing Assistants seeking certification as a NC Medication Aide.

Students who successfully complete the course are eligible to take the Medication Aide Examination to qualify for listing on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry. To find out more about certification, visit the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services website.

In person Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) license Classes

The LPN Refresher curriculum provides a refresher course for individuals previously licensed as Practical Nurses who are ineligible for reentry into nursing practice due to a lapse in licensure for five or more years.

An individual entering this curriculum must have been previously licensed as a Practical Nurse in North Carolina.  Candidates should confirm with the NC Board of Nursing if this course would meet their requirements for reinstatement.

This refresher course is taught online with a clinical component. Clinical hours are obtained from long term care facilities or hospital agencies. Attempts are made to schedule these hours at facilities in close proximity or surrounding areas of the student’s home.

All health admission is two phases. Complete your general application to the college first then submit the Phase II LPN Refresher Program Application per application instructions.

In person Commercial Driver's License Class B (CDL-B) Classes

The Truck Driver Training program prepares individuals to drive tractor trailer rigs. This course teaches proper driving procedures, safe driver responsibility, commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations, and the basic principles and practices for operating commercial vehicles. The course work includes motor vehicle laws and regulations, map reading, vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, daily logs, defensive driving, freight handling, security, and fire protection. Highway driving training exercises and classroom lectures are used to develop the student’s knowledge and skills. Upon successful completion, students are qualified to take the Commercial Driver’s License exam and are employable by commercial trucking firms. They may also become owner-operators and work as private contract haulers.

In person Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Classes

Medical sonographers specialize in diagnostic imaging procedures that assist in a physicians’ diagnoses. Sonographers use high-frequency sound waves that are collected back into the machine as echoes and forms that can be recorded for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician. Medical sonographers examine the screen during a scan for visual cues that may indicate unhealthy areas to determine which scans to show the physician.

The Medical Sonography program at SPCC is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to sit for the examinations administered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Admission to this program occurs once a year, the application date will be January 12th, 2024 for a program start date of May 2024. Students must complete all General Education courses listed in the Medical Sonography Admission Booklet prior to submitting the Phase II application.
