This program is designed to teach students the skills necessary for employment in hospitals or surgical out-patient centers to work as sterile processing technicians, central supply workers, material management workers, and inventory technicians. Students will develop a variety of skills and competencies using supplies, instruments, and equipment during their clinical skills lab rotation in the school’s lab area. Skills covered include how to clean, inspect, assemble, decontaminate, prepare, and sterilize instrument trays for surgical procedures, disinfect patient care equipment, and the various methods of inventory control, storage and distribution of sterile supplies, medical devices, and equipment, especially for patients undergoing surgical procedures. Employment opportunities exist in healthcare facilities such as hospitals, surgical centers, and birth centers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the need for Sterile Processing Technicians will increase by approximately 14.5% between now and 2024. The program includes theory, lab, and clinical lab skills training. Our program has been designed to offer flexibility for our students, such as hybrid classes. This program consists of online instructional learning, lectures using video-conferencing software, interactive tutorials, engaging with class peers in group discussions moderated by faculty, virtual group projects, and a face-to-face clinical practicum. All theory coursework is virtual and does not require students to be on campus to access it. In-person, hands-on skills performance is required to demonstrate competence in clinical knowledge and abilities. Students will receive supervised clinical lab skills training.
Medical Terminology is a foundational learning course that is essential to student success in all allied health programs. This course is designed for the health science student and includes the principles of building a medical vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on the use of word parts including prefixes, suffixes, and root words used with a combining form to establish medical terms. The course provides an overview of body systems, their anatomy and physiology, diseases, conditions, current medical and diagnostic procedures, treatments, and pharmaceutical agents, used in conjunction with terminology. Authentic medical records with activities to enhance the application of medical terminology to the "real world of medicine" are included. Correct spelling, definition, and pronunciation of medical terms is stressed. Communication both written and verbal between health care professionals, and between the health professional and patient, is emphasized. The course is designed to provide content to meet the needs of the Medical Terminology course for a variety of allied health programs. Content presented in the product is mapped to all NHA test plans for allied health credentials, including the CBCS, CCMA, CEHRS, CET, CMAA, CPCT, CPhT, and CPT exams.
This program will prepare students for an entry-level position as EKG Technician in the healthcare setting. The competencies of this program follow the duties and responsibilities of an EKG Technician as outlined in the program. Topics of study include The Role of the EKG Technician, Basic Patient Care Skills, Anatomy and Physiology, Common Cardiovascular Disease and Disorders, Introduction of EKG Technology and Applications, Basic EKG Technology, EKG Adaptations and Troubleshooting, The Cardiac Conduction System and EKG Tracings, Overview of Rhythm Interpretation, and Emergency Situation. The students will also demonstrate their skills in the skills lab clinical setting. The students will be encouraged to attain their national certification through NHA. The exam fee will be included in the cost of tuition. Upon completion of all program requirements, the students will receive a certificate of completion. However, to remain current, it is mandatory that the graduate obtain 10hrs of continuing education every 2 years.
This program is designed to prepare students to work as a MS/MA. The student will be able to work at a Doctor’s Office, Clinic, Paramedical Examiner, Urgent Care, Insurance Company, or Hospital. The student will be able to assist the Doctor in office medical procedures, schedule patient appointments and bill patients. MS/MA are multi-skilled professionals who assist doctors and work alongside nurses; students learn to perform duties under the direction of a doctor in all areas of private office medical practice. The students will master clinical skills, ranging from vital signs, passing medication, injections, lab testing, and performing phlebotomy and EKGs. The student will also focus on the administrative duties, making them well-rounded to function in an administrative capacity in the Doctor’s office. The administrative office duty skills will include tasks such as, but not limited to, billing, basic accounting, filing, computer documentation, and Insurance forms. The students will also practice and demonstrate their skills in the skills lab clinical. The students will be encouraged to attain their national certification through NHA after successful completion of the program. Students will have five years from the date of completion to sit for the exam. A diploma of completion is provided at the end of the program. Students will be able to sit for the national certification exam. Upon successful completion of the Medical Secretary/Medical Assistant Program, students will be able to obtain jobs as a Medical Secretary, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, PCT, or EKG Technician. Our program has been designed to offer flexibility for our students, such as: hybrid classes. Topics of study include anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy practice and health care setting, infection control, legal and regulatory issues, and the venipuncture procedure. The students will also demonstrate their skills in the skills lab clinical setting. The students will be encouraged to attain their national certification through NHA and also to pursue their license with the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners after certification is completed. Upon completion of all program requirements, the students will receive a certificate of completion. However, to remain current, it is mandatory that the graduate obtain 10hrs of continuing education every 2 years.
This program will be a combination of the Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy Technician, and EKG Technician Program.
The Patient Care Technician Program is designed to provide students with the necessary instruction and clinical experience to prepare them to pursue a career and employment in the field of Patient Care Technician after successful completion of the Nurse Aide Program, Phlebotomy Technician Program, and The EKG Program. The student will graduate as a Patient Care Technician in 16 weeks. Upon completion of the program, the student will have acquired the necessary skills required to perform competently in the field of Patient Care Technician. The program will provide the student with opportunities for individual growth and personal awareness, which will hopefully lead to an expansion in their interests, confidence, personal success, work ethics, and skills. Also if the students desire to do so he/she can go on to test with NHA to become Certified Patient Care Technicians.
This Program is a partial hybrid. All of the coursework for Phlebotomy and EKG will be online. The skills portion for Phlebotomy and EKG will be held at the school in the skills lab. The Nurse Aide portion of this will all be held at the school.

The Phlebotomy Program is outlined to be completed in 7 weeks. Our program has been designed to offer flexibility for our students, such as hybrid classes. This program includes theory and hands-on training. The total program hours are 68 which consist of online lectures and only 3 days of mandatory hands-on in-person skills lab training.
The course includes the clinical portion to be taught in a skills lab for supervised vein /capillary punctures and other hands-on training. All theories will be available online.

The EKG Program is outlined to be completed in 6 weeks. Our program has been designed to offer flexibility for our students, such as hybrid classes. This program includes theory and hands-on training. The total program hours are 24 which consist of 16 hours of online lecture and 8 of mandatory hands-on in-person skills lab training.
The course includes the clinical portion taught in a skills lab and other hands-on training. All theories will be available online. All work will be posted online at the beginning of each course. Once the work is posted the student can begin to do the assignment on their own. Students will not have to attend online at a certain time.
The Certified Nursing Assistant certification class offered by River Parishes Institute (RPI) in Louisiana is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful CNA. The course covers topics such as patient care, medical terminology, and infection control, and upon successful completion of the program, students will receive their CNA certification. RPI also offers job placement assistance to help graduates find employment in the healthcare field.
