The Cyber Security AAS provides students with training in the technologies, theories, and skills used in cyber operations and computer security. Students learn about legal issues governing the authorized conduct of cyber operations, how to properly install, configure, manage, and monitor various operating systems and security appliances. Additionally, students get hands-on practice designing, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting multiple types of information technology networks and systems. In a highly equipped, state-of-the-art lab/shop environment, delivered in a mix of hands-on training and theory, students may look forward to training in the following areas: Inspection, diagnosis and installation, troubleshooting, engine performance, high-tech diagnostic equipment, electrical components/fundamentals, engine installation, maintenance, customer service skills, computer database technical reference system, and shop safety.

Early Childhood Development

These program options prepare students for employment in a variety of early care and education settings. Courses meet Minnesota Department of Human Services educational requirements for assistant teachers and teachers in licensed childcare and preschool settings, before/after-school programs, as a family childcare program provider as well as paraprofessional/aides/assistant teacher requirements in Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) in school districts. Students learn about child growth and development, positive child guidance, working with diverse families and professionals, nutrition, health and safety, cultural sensitivity and anti-bias education practices, and strategies for developing curriculum that promotes learning in young children with differing needs. All ECD program options require the successful completion of a Minnesota Criminal Background Study.

Human Services Eligibility Worker

The Human Services Eligibility Worker (HSEW) program at PTCC is designed to train individuals to assist families during times of financial need. Often times, eligibility workers are the first line of defense against poverty for families. Eligibility workers are highly sought after by Minnesota County Human Services agencies across the state. All 87 Minnesota counties employ eligibility workers.

PTCC offers two program levels to prepare you for a career in this field and offers the only approved program in the state. The classroom portion of the program can be completed though online learning and virtual attendance while the internship occurs at a local county agency. These programs have been developed in consultation with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, and PTCC is the only Minnesota institution with an approved DHS program, and with access to the DHS computer systems MAXIS, MEC2, and MMIS. The associate degree and diploma levels provide the needed competencies to meet the requirements to test with the Minnesota Merit System.

Welding Technology

The Welding Technology program will provide students with hands-on skills and technical training in the areas of GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, flux cored arc, and pulse arc welding processes. Skills are also developed in the oxy fuel and plasma cutting processes. Related areas of instruction include interpretation of engineering drawings, blueprint reading, metallurgy, and the American Welding Society (AWS) standard welding symbol interpretation. An integral part of the skills training is a qualification/certification testing program. This is designed to qualify students for the AWS structural code.

Hybrid Certified Nursing Assistant Classes

The Emergency Medical Services Professional certificate will provide students with the skills necessary to respond to medical and trauma emergencies, and pass the core competencies exam for licensure through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Students will gain skills in human anatomy, clear decision-making in medical emergencies, incident management, handling hazardous materials, and ensuring patient, public and personal safety. Students will earn their CPR certification. These skills will qualify EMS graduates to work as emergency room technicians, ambulance clinicians, 911 dispatchers and rescue teams, law enforcement, security services, and others. In addition, this curriculum prepares students to seamlessly transfer into the next step in their education to become a Paramedic, Community Paramedic, Medical Assistant, Advanced EMT, Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.
