Accredited by the Missouri Department of Higher Education-This course is designed to introduce students to the healthcare field and the duties, attributes, and responsibilities of the medical assistant. Students will gain an understanding of healthcare practice, medical law and ethics, infection control, and administrative and clinical duties. Examples administrative duties learned include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Example clinical duties learned include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician. All students are eligible to take National Certifications for the following test: Administrative Assistant, Phlebotomy, EKG, and Clinical Medical Assisting.
