Program Overview:
The Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy program aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue entry-level positions in the respiratory therapy industry. Respiratory therapists play a crucial role in healthcare, providing care to patients of all ages by conducting diagnostic testing, administering breathing treatments, setting up mechanical ventilators, and consulting with physicians on patient care. The program curriculum covers various areas, including medical terminology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, critical care, and cardiopulmonary anatomy & physiology. Students also gain practical experience in using specialized equipment through laboratory components. Clinical rotations are integrated into the program, allowing students to apply their skills in real-world healthcare settings. Graduates are eligible to apply for positions such as Certified Respiratory Therapist, Registered Respiratory Therapist, and Staff Respiratory Therapist.
Credential Awarded:
Upon completion of the program, graduates earn an occupational Specialized Associate Degree
Certifications Available:
Students have the opportunity to obtain certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Program Accreditation:
This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), ensuring adherence to high standards in respiratory therapy education. It is also approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools, and accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools & Colleges.
Program Advisory Committee:
Laurel has established a Program Advisory Committee to ensure that the curriculum remains aligned with current job market trends and employer needs. Any program changes are made with the approval of the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools and the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools & Colleges.

Accreditation is a form of quality control, ensuring that institutions of higher education satisfy certain standards. To ensure we always meet those standards, Laurel is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, State Board of License Schools. Laurel is also approved to participate in NC-Sara through the PA Department of Education. We have programmatic accreditation through CoARC for our Respiratory Therapy program.
