Medical Assistant Program

The RN-BSN program allows Registered Nurses to expand the breadth and depth of their knowledge to advance their professional role as a nurse leader and earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The program is designed for the working nurse to improve patient outcomes, influence communities with knowledge of evidence-based practice, patient safety, and quality improvement, and can be completed in as little as 4 semesters. Upon completion of the program, nurses will be prepared for graduate study and be equipped for leadership positions where increasing levels of education are expected. In addition, graduates will earn a California Public Health Nurse certificate, expanding your opportunities to meet global health care needs within diverse communities. The RN-BSN program emphasizes quality and safety education for nurses as well as the AACN baccalaureate essentials in developing and guiding the curriculum content. These baccalaureate essentials enable nurses to provide patient-centered quality care in communities and with populations in a diverse and evolving health care system in the role of provider of care, designer/manager/coordinator of care, and member of a profession.

The Pharmacy Technician program at North-West College offers the education and training necessary to start a career working in a pharmacy, hospital, pharmaceutical lab, and other healthcare facilities. Pharmacy Technicians are trained professionals equipped to take on a number of clerical tasks and responsibilities related to readying and dispensing pharmaceutical drugs. A growing aging population means a greater demand for prescription medicines. Couple that with the rising rate of chronic diseases such as diabetes and obesity among all age groups and you have a growing need for trained and licensed Pharmacy Technicians as well.

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) provide hands-on patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or a licensed doctor. Vocational Nurses offer individual- and family-centered nursing care, and help determine the basic physical, emotional, spiritual, and sociocultural needs of the patient. Vocational Nursing professionals work in a number of health care settings, including hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, doctors’ offices, medical clinics, correctional facilities, and home health care agencies.

The Surgical Technologist program at Glendale Career College trains students with the skills to begin working alongside surgeons, registered nurses and other medical professionals as part of the medical team, providing care to patients during the crucial periods of surgery. Surgical Technologists assist in surgical operations, preparing operating rooms and helping surgeons, nurses, and doctors before and during surgical procedures. Graduates of this program earn their Associate of Occupational Science (AOS) degree and are qualified to work in surgical centers, delivery rooms, and medical clinics and may be employed as a member of an operating room team.

Central Service Instrument Technicians, sometimes called central service technicians or sterile processing technicians, must ensure all instruments used by medical personnel in a hospital or other health care facility are sterile, clean, and ready. As a Central Service Instrument Technician, you will offer crucial support in all patient care services and must be familiar with every tool used in an operating room. You will also be responsible for cleaning and packaging surgical instruments. In addition, you will sterilize, process, put together, store, and pass out medical devices and supplies, and keep records related to sterilization monitors, orders, and inventory.
