Program Overview

The Phlebotomy course is a comprehensive program designed to provide students with technical skills and procedural knowledge essential to the practice of basic phlebotomy. The curriculum covers the anatomy of the circulatory system, blood specimen collection, processing, handling, and venipuncture. This program combines theoretical learning with hands-on instruction, emphasizing professionalism, patient and workplace safety, blood-borne pathogens, quality assurance, and universal precautions.

Learning Objectives

  1. Master the technical skills required for phlebotomy practice.
  2. Understand the anatomy of the circulatory system relevant to phlebotomy.
  3. Learn the proper techniques for the collection, processing, and handling of blood specimens.
  4. Develop proficiency in venipuncture through practice on special phlebotomy mannequins and live individuals.
  5. Emphasize professionalism, patient and workplace safety, blood-borne pathogens, and universal precautions.
  6. Complete 30 successful unassisted venipunctures and 10 capillary sticks on live individuals for successful course completion.

Certification and Recognition

Upon successfully completing the course, students will be awarded a certificate of course completion. This certification, along with successful exam results, opens up opportunities for professional certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.

Diamond Career Institute, established in September 2020, is a small proprietary career school in accordance with Texas law. The institute specializes in offering training and certification preparation for both Nurse Aide candidates and Phlebotomy students. Successful completion of the Nurse Aide course equips students to take the state examination for certification as a Nurse Aide, while graduates of the Phlebotomy course are prepared and eligible to undertake the National Healthcare Association certification examination for certification as a Phlebotomist.

Regulated by the Texas Workforce Commission Career Schools and Colleges in Austin, Texas, Diamond Career Institute holds a Certificate of Approval. The school's TWC-assigned number is S6273.
