Surgical technologists are healthcare professionals who work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel in an operating room to deliver optimal patient care. Surgical technologists are essential members of the surgical team engaging in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative job duties that include preparing the operating room,  setting up surgical equipment,  instruments, and supplies.  During a surgical procedure, these professionals are responsible for assessing instruments, fluids and supplies, anticipating the surgeon's needs and monitoring and assessing room conditions. Surgical Technologists are responsible for maintaining the sterile field and ensuring that all members of the surgical team adhere to aseptic technique. 

The CCRI Surgical Technology program is a 43 credit, twelve month full time certificate program which combines classroom instruction, simulation lab experiences and supervised clinical practice in a hospital environment.   Students will complete a minimum of 500 practicum hours, and will scrub in on a minimum of 120 surgical procedures.
