Learn medical terminology and train to transcribe physician orders, understand medication orders, communicate, and assist medical professionals in a variety of ways. The Health Unit Coordinator Program is a credit course. By studying to be a Health Unit Coordinator, you will learn medical terminology by studying prefixes, suffixes, and word roots as well as medical abbreviations, and be introduced to body structures and functions. During the course, you will complete 20 hours of on-the-job training at a local hospital which provides valuable experience in a working environment.

This degree prepares you for a variety of careers including early childhood education, family support, recreation, after-school and school-based professions and after additional study, can enter a variety of careers including TK-12 classroom teaching, school administration, etc. The Child Development Program is designed so that you may satisfy the requirements for graduation from the College with a major in Child Development and Family Studies. The program is aligned with other ECE/CDEV majors throughout the state Curriculum Alignment Project to allow for statewide uniformity in the major and portability of coursework from other California Community Colleges.

The Community Mental Health Certificate (CMHC) at City College of San Francisco (CCSF) is a 16 unit program based on the wellness and recovery model in mental health. The curriculum is designed to train a diverse group of front-line health workers to provide culturally responsive mental health and recovery services in San Francisco. It is comprised of courses that promote the development of skills needed to become gainfully employed as a mental health worker and enhance the knowledge base of those already employed.

Prepare for an entry-level position in acute care and convalescent facilities as well as home care agencies and out-patient clinics. This Short-term intensive training program prepares you for entry-level employment on the nursing career ladder. At the end of this program, you will be ready to take the State Certification Exam for Nursing Assistant and with the basic skills you have learned, you will be prepared to care for patients in convalescent homes, skilled nursing facilities and acute care hospitals.

The Addiction & Recovery Counseling Certificate at City College of San Francisco is a 26.5-unit program, which emphasizes a public health, harm reduction approach that addresses community, social/economic, and individual factors of addiction. We believe the main strategy for addressing addiction should be treated on-demand, expanded education, and employment opportunities. All of our classes are offered in the evenings and the Certificate takes approximately 2 years to complete. Credits are applicable towards a CCSF Associate Degree and are transferable to CSU. This program is made possible in part by a grant from the City and County of San Francisco Department of Public Health, Behavioral Health Services (BHS).

The CHW Program trains and certifies students to work in the fields of public health, health care and social services. Community Health Workers (CHWs) provide a wide range of services, including health outreach and education, client-centered counseling and case management, and client and community-based advocacy. They work to reduce unequal rates of illness and death between different communities and to promote health equity or justice, prioritizing communities with the greatest health risks.

Study living organisms and their relation to each other and their environment through the observation of structure, function, reproduction, growth, origin, evolution, and behavior. Biologists have deepened our understanding of processes and interactions on all levels of biological organization from elucidating cellular processes to fight cancer to assessing interactions in communities that might help prevent the extinction of species. Studying biology provides a background for students to evaluate and understand new discoveries and to make informed decisions about the use of scientific knowledge to benefit all living organisms. The study of Biological Sciences provides a background fundamental to a wide variety of disciplines and careers - from the study of the smallest viruses to the exploration of vast ecosystems. CCSF provides a wide variety of degrees and certificates intended to provide students with backgrounds appropriate to their specific interests.

The Pharmacy Technician Program trains students in the administrative and clinical skills necessary for entry-level employment as a pharmacy technician in an institutional, community based or hospital pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician Program is a two-semester program that teaches you the role and function of pharmacy technicians. During the program, you will gain practical experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy practice setting in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will have the opportunity to complete your clinical experience during the course of the program under the direction of a licensed pharmacist. You may obtain the Certificate of Achievement in Pharmacy Technician by successfully completing the 30 units of instruction consisting of didactic and practical experience in a community or hospital pharmacy. Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to apply for a license as a Pharmacy Technician to the California State Board of Pharmacy.

The Healthcare Interpreting (HCI) Certificate is a 17-unit program designed to prepare bilingual and bicultural students to become linguistically and culturally competent interpreters who can function effectively and efficiently in a variety of health and community settings. This is done through academic preparation, practical skills training, and service in community-based health settings. The certificate candidates learn basic medical knowledge, intercultural communication skills, interpreting skills, related code of ethics and interpreter standards of practice.

The CVT/ECHO Program is a four-semester (two-year) degree program that trains you in a specialty area of diagnostic imaging. Program courses include a focus on Adult Cardiac Ultrasound (Echocardiography), cardiac anatomy and physiology, 2D and M-Mode imaging, PW, CW and color flow Doppler, cardiac pathology and methods of interpretation. CVT course content includes: advanced rhythm interpretation, exercise stress testing, cardiac pharmacology, physics of ultrasound. This program admits eligible candidates into a cohort every two years.

The LVN Program of the John Adams Center is a full-time, three-semester, 18-month course of instruction which leads to a certificate in vocational nursing and 40.5 units of college credit. The program is accredited by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Upon successful completion of the program, you will take a state examination for licensure in vocational nursing.
