BuildHer: Women in Construction Training Initiative

BuilldHer: Women in Construction Training Initiative - General orientation to apprenticeship – training and theoretical learning to equip candidates with skills for a specific trade. Introduction to the construction industry – practical insights into construction and introducing candidates to construction materials, tools, and equipment. CPR and First Aid: preparing candidates with essential life-saving skills. OSHA 10-hour safety certification – discussing the rights and responsibilities of employees in the workplace, as well as the importance of a safe and healthful work environment. Blueprint reading - learning to decipher plans for structures, machinery, or systems and gaining skills to visualize and comprehend complex designs. Applied mathematics for construction – understanding topics such as mathematics and measurements with a focus on real-world applications in construction. Construction site readiness – training candidates in resilience and resourcefulness to navigate the physical environment of a construction site. Cooperation and collaboration in the workplace – practicing team building and discussing the importance of customer service. How to interview effectively – practicing critical thinking skills and effective communication. BuildHer candidates will move on to a 4-week pre-apprenticeship training, based on industry standards, at a union location that falls under the Baltimore-DC Metro Building and Trade Council. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates can join a Registered Apprenticeship program.
