Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a requirement for healthcare providers such as nursing students, nurses, CNA's, HHA's, LPN's, medical assistants, doctors, etc., along with most public safety professionals such as police officers, firefighters, lifeguards, daycare workers and school bus drivers. Basic Life Support (BLS) is an emergency level of medical treatment used when a victim has stopped breathing. This valuable life-saving method is used to preserve life until emergency care or an (Automated External Defibrillator) AED arrives. Our Basic Life Support (BLS) course will cover different scenarios such as breathing and cardiac emergencies – including CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and obstructed airway – for adults, children, and infants. Each class will be instructed via lecture, skills demonstration, practices, critical thinking skills, problem solving and teamwork. Upon completion of this course, students will be awarded a 2-year Basic Life Support (BLS) digital certificate. No pre-requisites or qualification required. Approved by the American Heart Association.
This Phlebotomy course offers an opportunity for individuals already trained in healthcare professions to expand the scope of their careers. This course is designed to review the national certification requirements and includes a review of the theory, hands-on instruction, and the collection of blood specimens. Our instructor-led seven-week Phlebotomy Course prepares participants to work in the following medical facility: Hospitals, Research Institutions, Medical Centers, Doctor's Office, Diagnostic Laboratories, Nursing Homes. Pre-requisites: Each student must be 18 years or older and have liability insurance before starting the class. We do not and cannot guarantee job placement. Brevard Nursing Academy is a testing site for the National Medical Career Assessment Certification (MedCA).
The Home Health Aide (HHA) program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist patients in the home with personal care, light household duties in addition to monitoring the patients' condition(s). Each student will be taught the core functions, which include but are not limited to the following: 1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the area of science relevant to the home health aide's role, including anatomy and physiology. 2. Apply standard practices to assist patients with the activities of daily living including bathing, dressing/grooming, and meal preparation. 3. Assess the patient's physical and mental condition including vital signs and behavior activity level. 4. React appropriately to emergency situations. 5. Maintain accurate records of patient care conditions, progress, and change. Each student's time will be divided between classroom instruction, laboratory time, and a supervised externship in the assisted living and nursing care facilities.
This 5-week program covers the basic nursing assistant principals as well as provide the student with the opportunity for practice and demonstration of skills related to patient care. Each student will be taught core functions, which include but are not limited to the following: Bathe and dress patients, Take vital signs, Turn or reposition patients who are bedridden, Collect information about conditions and treatment plans from family members, nurses, and doctors, Examine patients for bruises and other injuries/wounds. Each student's time will be divided between classroom instructions, laboratory time, and supervised experience in the nursing home and hospital settings. Students must take and pass the Florida Nurse Aide exam delivered by Prometric to become a Florida licensed Certified Nursing Assistant.
