Instruction includes classroom and lab experiences that enable the student to be job ready and become proficient in the installation, repair, and maintenance of domestic and commercial air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems. Heavy emphasis is placed on electrical systems.

The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program at ASA is lab-based with almost every class meeting having a hands-on (learn-by-doing) approach where students train and work on actual air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. This lab allows students to gain experience in equipment installation, maintaining air conditioning units, troubleshooting equipment failures and refrigeration systems.

Instruction coincides with the eight (8) areas recognized by the Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) for professional technician certification, and provides for eight areas of specialization in Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Manual Drive Train and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance. Students are encouraged to participate in the ASE Certification testing program during their training.
