As the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) trade is growing, and College of Western Idaho's (CWI) HVAC Apprenticeship program is your key to starting a rewarding career in a field increasingly in need of trained and licensed technicians, installers, and trouble shooters.

This four-year program will take your skills from the basics to being prepared to take the journeyman test to become a licensed HVAC technician. HVAC Apprenticeship classes are available in a hyflex format offering in-person and virtual class options with 576 hours of classroom training and 8,000 hours of on-the job experience.

Learn from industry experts in the classroom in concert with employment in the HVAC field for on-the-job training while earning a living. Courses will teach refrigeration as applied to air conditioning theory,  electrical theory, motors and basic electrical controls, International Fuel Gas and Mechanical Code, installation methods, and much more.

The Certificate Program in HVAC provides a structured approach to learning the in-depth technical principles and applications you need to design new HVAC systems and retrofit existing systems to meet energy-conservation and comfort standards. The curriculum is overseen by an advisory board of industry and education leaders and approved by the University of California, Berkeley, College of Environmental Design, ensuring your education is relevant and up to date. Courses are taught by working professionals with many years of practical experience.

HVACR Technicians maximize the performance of HVACR equipment – heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. As a graduate from our online HVAC School training program, you will know the procedures and techniques for installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining HVACR systems. Whether you live in a big city, small town or rural area, now is the time to train to start making money in one of the largest, oldest and most secure industries in the nation. New construction of commercial and residential buildings, along with the rising number of complex energy efficient, climate-control systems will increase the need for qualified heating, air conditioning and refrigeration installers and mechanics.

The need for qualified heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) technicians is never going away. Collin College can teach you what it takes to work in the residential HVAC industry installing and servicing gas and electric furnaces and heat pump systems.

You will learn how to work safely and responsibly within Environmental Protection Agency guidelines and standards that apply to the HVAC industry, and identify and use HVAC equipment, components and tools, while understanding their functions within the industry. You will also learn common mechanical, electrical and electronic components such as compressors, switches, thermostats, motors and fans. You will even be able to practice all of the techniques you learn with heat pumps, heating units, a/c units, refrigeration units and more with hands-on instruction in Collin College facilities.

This course emphasizes practical learning, equipping students with applied, job-focused abilities in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The course content, designed to answer industry necessities, includes forward-thinking units on temperature control, air flow, and energy supervision with a focus on eco-friendly methods. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) courses prepare students for installation, repair, and maintenance of these systems. Heating technology is offered in the fall and air conditioning in the spring. Learn the fundamentals of heating including gas, and electric heating systems as well as air conditioning equipment and components, including condensers, evaporators, compressors, metering devices, refrigerants, and electrical and mechanical circuits. Students will work with equipment, following safety standards and protocols, to develop skills required for entry-level employment as a technician in the HVAC industry.
