With the ever-evolving landscape of cyberattacks and the increasing reliance on digital systems, the need for skilled cybersecurity professionals is at an all-time high. This course will get you on the path toward a career in cybersecurity by equipping you with entry-level skills—from programming for cybersecurity tasks to mastering security frameworks, utilizing cutting-edge SIEM tools, detecting and responding to incidents with intrusion detection systems, and conducting packet capture and analysis. With these skills, you will be prepared to enter the cybersecurity field through a variety of pathways, including: Cybersecurity Operations (incident responder, security operation center technician, junior cybersecurity analyst); IT Infrastructure & Systems (network technician, junior systems administrator, IT support specialist); Governance, Risk, & Compliance (threat analyst, penetration tester, junior vulnerability analyst); and more.

The Cybersecurity associate degree program prepares students for working with network security or support in private, public, and government arenas at the mid-administrative level, and for transferring to similar programs to complete a bachelor's in cybersecurity. With HCC's designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence (CAE), cybersecurity students complete a curriculum mapped to the CAE Information Assurance and Cyber Defense training standards approved by NSA and Department of Homeland Security.  

Students study content related to widely-recognized industry certifications, including CompTIA Network+, Security+, CySA+ and ECC Certified Ethical Hacker. All students gain significant “hands-on-keyboard” lab experience and how to apply their learning in realistic settings.

HCC is an approved Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) and students are eligible for an HCC certificate that states that the student has completed a curriculum mapped to the CAE Information Assurance and Cyber Defense training standards approved by NSA and Department of Homeland Security.

This certificate prepares students for entry-level positions in the field of Cybersecurity with a concentration in systems' security administration and cyber-analytics and operations. Students who successfully complete this certificate will be prepared to work in a Network Operations Center (NOC) and/or a Security Operations Center (SOC). Upon completion of coursework, students will have the foundation needed to pursue CompTIA's Network+, Security+, Cloud+, Linux+, CySA+ industry certifications.

Students wishing to pursue an A.A.S. degree may apply these credits to the Cybersecurity A.A.S, Systems Administration and Security Track and Information Technology A.A.S. degrees.and Information Technology A.A.S.

The field of cybersecurity focuses on the protection of computers, networks, software, and data from unauthorized access, modification, and destruction. Continued adoption of new technologies, Software as a Service (SAAS), and migration to cloud environments in the face of evolving threats are accelerating demand for practitioners in this already growing field.

The Associate of Arts in Cybersecurity degree provides students with the skill set needed to be thought leaders in the field of cybersecurity.
