Union County College - Elizabeth Lessner Building

UCNJ’s Practical Nursing Program in Elizabeth, New Jersey, is a four-semester certificate program that prepares students to provide practical nursing care. The curriculum combines theoretical knowledge from the biological and social sciences with nursing concepts, classroom instruction, skills-laboratory practice, and clinical client-care experiences. Nursing courses are offered during the daytime, while clinical rotations may be scheduled during daytime, evening, or weekend hours. Enrollment in clinical nursing courses requires CPR, malpractice insurance, health documentation, a criminal background check, and an official uniform.

By Virtue of an agreement between Union College and Muhlenberg Snyder Schools, Plainfield, New Jersey, Union College confers a degree of Associate in Science upon graduates of the Hospital-Sponsored school who have fulfilled the requirements for the degree specified by Union College. Students in the program earn college credits in English, mathematics, biology, physics, social sciences and humanities electives in classes and laboratories conducted at Union College. Diagnostic Medical Sonography courses are the primary responsibility of the program. Students must apply to Muhlenberg for admission to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program by March 31 for the fall semester. Candidates must be high school graduates and must have had high school biology and algebra.

Union County College’s EMT 106: Emergency Medical Technician is offered in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The course trains emergency medical technicians through instruction and skills practice aligned with National EMS Educational Standards and New Jersey emergency medical technician regulations, preparing successful completers to sit for the National Registry examination. It carries seven credits and may be taken as a stand-alone course or as part of a certificate or degree. Classes are delivered through scheduled lecture and skills sessions during spring, summer, and fall semesters, with offerings that include weekday and Saturday meetings. The program is approved by the New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Emergency Medical Services.
