Program Overview

Our program is meticulously designed to prepare students for entry-level employment as Dental Assistants across various dental settings. You will receive comprehensive instruction in dental assisting procedures, including chairside assisting, dental office administration, infection control, and common dental treatment procedures performed in dental settings.

Hands-On Learning

In addition to attending courses, students will engage in out-of-class assignments, which may include reading, exercises, problem-solving tasks, projects, research, papers, and presentations. These practical activities ensure that you're well-prepared to apply your knowledge in real-world scenarios. Anticipate dedicating approximately two hours to out-of-class activities for every one hour of lecture.

Program Outcomes

By the end of the program, you should be able to:

  • Professionalism and Communication: Demonstrate the importance of professionalism, communication, and collaboration skills in a professional dental setting.

  • Ethical Standards: Identify and describe the legal and ethical standards, guidelines, and regulations relevant to the dental field and dental assisting.

  • Dental Assisting Skills: Explain the knowledge, skills, and professional behavior necessary to perform as a competent entry-level dental assistant in various settings.

  • Administrative Proficiency: Explain and perform dental office administrative tasks effectively.

  • Infection Control: Demonstrate knowledge of environmental issues, including bloodborne pathogens, as they relate to infection control and dentistry.

  • Clinical Skills: Demonstrate the clinical skills, diagnostic procedures, and appropriate operational functions of dental assisting as defined by state and local regulations and/or licensure requirements.

  • Safe Working Conditions: Demonstrate skills and attitudes that contribute to safe working conditions in the dental office.

  • Radiography Proficiency: Expose, process, mount, and evaluate diagnostic dental radiographs as prescribed by the dentist.
