Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) serve their communities in many diverse roles.  Whether it be fire department, ambulance service, Emergency Department Assistant, or law enforcement,  EMT’s provide time critical assessment, treatment, and transport of the sick and injured in dynamic environments.  

The one quarter EMT course at Spokane Community College prepares students for field and clinical careers in emergency medicine.  The utility of the training carries into all walks of life.  The EMT course prepares student with skills such as:

The program works with modern technologies and programming languages. The program exposes students to technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, Responsive Website Design, JavaScript, Node.js, PHP/Laravel, Android/Kotlin and DBMS/SQL. The program also allows students to develop soft skills in agile development, project management and job preparation techniques.

Students must maintain a grade of 2.0 in each class. All software required for the program is available in CIS labs. Students can purchase the software to use at home with student discounts.

In this accredited program, you’ll learn about drug products, calculations, dosages, dispensing techniques, inventory management, aseptic techniques, IV preparation, compounding, inventory management and aseptic technique and Washington pharmacy law. You’ll study and develop different skills, work attitudes and ethics. You'll also develop proper work habits and appreciation for the job. Your training will include classroom instruction, laboratory practice and clinical pharmacy training.

With this degree, you’ll be prepared to work in both community and hospital pharmacy settings.

In this accredited program, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to care for patients as an important part of the dental team. Medical assistants provide a broad range of administrative and clinical duties. In this program, you will learn about scheduling and receiving patients, preparing and maintaining medical records, medical transcription and managing practice finances. You will also get intense, hands-on training to perform clinical duties, including taking vital signs and patient histories, managing infection control, assisting with examinations and treatments, collecting specimens and performing diagnostic tests.

In the last quarter, you will get real experience in a clinical externship in a medical office. Medical assistants work in private practices, clinics, hospitals, medical labs and retirement communities.

In this program, you’ll learn medical terminology, billing and coding, reception and computerized patient scheduling. You’ll develop the office and technical skills that employers want in today’s medical field, and gain hands-on training through an internship and other on-the-job experiences.

When you complete the program, you’ll be ready to pursue opportunities in not only doctors’offices, but also medical clinics, hospitals, medical insurance companies and medical laboratories.

We offer a seven quarter, two-year Associate’s Degree of Applied Science (A.A.S) in HVAC/R. Graduates of the program are prepared for entry-level positions as a technician in the HVAC/R trade, a rewarding career that is fast-paced, challenging, and requires an independent mindset.

Students of the SCC HVAC/R program study electrical theory, motors, controls, refrigeration theory, gas and electric furnace troubleshooting, air conditioner and refrigeration system troubleshooting, heat pump troubleshooting, and computer based digital controls. Hands-on learning and troubleshooting is an important part of our program. The SCC HVAC/R lab has over 120 pieces of operational equipment for students to learn on and practice with. All pieces of equipment were installed by students, and have been maintained by students. Classroom theory is backed up with real-world testing, measurement, and troubleshooting on actual pieces of equipment students will see in the field after they graduate. An optional internship is available sixth and seventh quarters as well. Students will have the opportunity to take the tests to receive their Spokane Gas Heating Mechanic’s 1 License and EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling License. Students will also register to receive their WA L&I Electrical Trainee License, and will start to receive credit for hours that will apply towards an electrical license.

Courses also develop your organizational, supervisory and customer relations skills. You graduate with a strong foundation in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office applications.

If you are investigative and you want to help in the diagnosis of a patient’s illness or injury, a career in sonography might be right for you.

Sonography is a medical imaging procedure that uses high frequency sound waves to produce images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body. This accredited program prepares you to use ultrasound machines and other specialized equipment to perform diagnostic exams on patients. You’ll study normal and abnormal anatomy, pathophysiology of the abdomen, small body parts, OB/GYN and vascular structures.

Whether you want to work in a large hospital system, at an outpatient imaging center or at a specialty office, this program will provide you with the knowledge and hands-on clinical skills to enter the sonography workforce within 21 months.
