The EKG Technician program prepares individuals to perform confidently and efficiently in a job where they are responsible for performing diagnostic tests to access the heart rhythm and rate in patients. The EKG Technician performs diagnostic tests related to the heart’s electrical impulses. The pattern and signals noted on the paper print-out can tell the physician information about a person’s heart; whether it is normal, if the person is experiencing electrical problems, under strain, or damaged.

EKG’s are performed in many settings: pre and post operations, during physicals, for patients with history of heart disease, when patients are experiencing chest pains and whenever a physician deems it necessary. The well-trained EKG technician is an integral part of the management of patients with heart disease.

The Phlebotomy Technician program prepares the individual by providing specialty cross-training in blood drawing techniques as well as basic bedside nursing skills. Students are introduced to the structure, function, and pathology of blood.

They will learn and demonstrate clinical practice of blood drawing techniques such as finger stick, venipuncture, color-coding, charting, and recording of patients’ results and other skills related to laboratory procedures. Instructions in OSHA guidelines are emphasized and must be adhered to in this course. At the end of this program the student will be able to identify anatomic structure and function of body systems in relation to the duties performed by the phlebotomist.

They will show the skills and demonstrate the knowledge necessary to complete the clinical/internship rotation. Students will be eligible to take the State and/or National certification exam for Phlebotomy Technician.

Requirements: The person registering for this course must have a High School Diploma/GED and a Georgia State Certification for Certified Nursing Assistant.

Nursing assistants work under the direction of other health care professionals, usually in nursing homes or hospitals. Their duties include taking the blood pressure, temperature and pulse of patients. They help patients get in and out of bed, take baths, and dress. They also serve meals and perform housekeeping chores like making beds and cleaning rooms.

Nursing assistants observe the patients physical, emotional, and mental status and report any changes to the medical or nursing staff. Nursing assistants that are employed in nursing homes are often the principal caregivers. They often have more contact with residents than other members of the staff. Since some residents may occupy a nursing home for months or even years, nursing assistants often develop ongoing relationships with them and respond to them in a positive and caring manner.

Requirements: To register for this course, you must be able to read, write and understand English. The student provide proof of Georgia Residency and Social Security Card. Student must be 16yrs of age or older.

The Patient Care Technician program (incorporates Phlebotomy & EKG Technician) prepares individuals for a variety of job opportunities in the healthcare field. This program is generated to meet the needs of individuals and potential employers; this is accomplished by meeting the need for cross training of employees. The Patient Care Technician program is a cluster of planned, sequenced instruction to cross-train students for positions as advanced patient caregivers under the supervision of the registered nurse and or physician. The program expands the traditional role of the nursing assistant, providing a broad foundation of knowledge and skills to be applied to the care of the patients in hospitals, nursing homes, physicians’ offices, private homes, and other facilities. Graduates may also find employment in a number of settings such as long-term care/rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, off-site laboratories and clinics. Our graduates will be able to perform basic bedside nursing skills as well as the skills of phlebotomy, performing electrocardiograms (EKG), stress testing, and holter monitoring procedures. The program consists of didactic coursework with lab instruction and supervised/preceptor clinical internship activities. Upon successful completion of this competency-based program, students may be eligible to take State and/or National Certification Exams in Phlebotomy, Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician, and/or Patient Care Technician. The Certified Medical Assistant program is a cluster of planned, sequenced instruction to cross-train students for positions as advanced patient caregivers under the supervision of the physician and advanced practice nurses mainly in outpatient or ambulatory care facilities, such as medical offices and clinics. This program expands the traditional role of the nursing assistant and the patient care technician, providing a broad foundation of knowledge and skills to be applied to the care of the patients in physicians’ offices and urgent care centers.

The Pharmacy Technician program will prepare you to be a great assistant to a licensed pharmacist. You will be assisting with filling prescriptions according to a doctor’s order for patients. As a pharmacy technician you will be considered the pharmacist’s right hand person. As a pharmacy technician you will measure out correct amounts of medication from larger containers to prescription size containers. You will also add drugs to intravenous (IV) solutions. All the prescription filling work is rechecked by a pharmacist before medications are dispensed to patients or customers. The pharmacy technician is an integral part of a functional pharmacy. Students will be eligible for the State and/or National certification exam for Pharmacy Technician.
