Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course is an entry-level emergency medical provider course that will prepare individuals for employment or a volunteer position in a variety of pre-hospital, industrial and first responder settings. The successful completion of an approved EMR course can be a pre-requisite to pursuing training as a Fire Fighter and many Law Enforcement programs. The EMR course is designed to provide participants with the basic knowledge and skills to manage many medical and trauma-related emergencies. Upon successful completion of this course, graduates are eligible to seek national certification as an Emergency Medical Responder through the National Registry of EMTs.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Refresher

This 30-hour EMT refresher course will meet the education requirements for Washington State continuing medical education (CME) recertification requirements WAC 246-976-162 for EMTs who do not meet ongoing training and evaluation program (OTEP) requirements listed in WAC 246-976-163 and will meet the national and state content education requirements for National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) recertification via the National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) model (it does not include ten (10) required individual NCCP content hours).

This 30-hour refresher course will meet the education requirements for state-approved refresher courses required for lapsed NREMT certifications or students who didn’t successfully pass the exam in the maximum number of attempts.

A basic life support CPR card earned within the previous 6 months is also required for the exam and is included as an optional course in the program.

Program objective: To meet the standards for the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) recertification. Upon successful completion of this 2 week program, attendees will receive an EMT Refresher certificate of completion.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

This intensive 11-week course is designed to prepare participants in all phases of pre-hospital emergency care. Participants will be educated and prepared for the National Registry EMT examination (NREMT) upon successful completion of the course and eligible for Washington State EMT certification once affiliated. Content includes lecture and hands-on practice in emergency care, bleeding and shock, soft tissue injuries, environmental emergencies, lifting and moving patients, HIV/AIDS education, emergency childbirth, and other topics. A basic life support CPR card earned within the previous 6 months is also required for the exam and is included as an optional course in the program. Program objective: To meet the standards for the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Upon successful completion of this 3 month program, attendees will receive an EMT certificate of completion. This qualifies the student to take the National Exam for EMT Certification. Method of instruction: Program will be completed onsite in the classroom and during field clinical rotation. Courses are comprised of lecture and lab instruction. Some online coursework is also required, which is performed offsite.

RN to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Transition
