The Carpentry Program provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers both theoretical and practical aspects of carpentry. Students will learn the safe use of hand and power tools, as well as blueprint reading, which are essential skills for any carpenter. The program also covers floor, wall, and roof framing, as well as interior and exterior finishing, including insulation, drywall, siding, and roofing. One unique aspect of this program is the ongoing project of building a tiny smart home, which allows students to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting. By participating in this project, students will gain valuable experience in carpentry, as well as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to join SkillsUSA, which is a national organization that promotes career and technical education. By joining SkillsUSA, students can participate in various activities, competitions, and community projects, which can enhance their leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Overall, the Carpentry Program provides a comprehensive and hands-on training that prepares students for a successful career in carpentry or for further education in related fields.

Parkway West Career & Technology Center

Parkway West CTC is a vocational school in Allegheny County. It was founded in 1965 and offers various courses such as CNA, horticulture, and travel & hospitality. The school has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years, and at its peak in the early 1980s, it enrolled approximately 1,600 students.
