Do you enjoy working in an office setting and interacting with people? The Administrative Support program at Northwest Technical College will provide the knowledge and skills necessary to cultivate a career as an administrative assistant, professional secretary, office assistant or receptionist.

Students will develop and strengthen necessary skills such as communication, telephone techniques, computer usage and human relations. Graduates will be prepared to perform office management tasks such as processing incoming and outgoing mail, transcribing business documents, filing and retrieving records, handling telephone calls and making travel arrangements.

This is a blended program, with all courses offered online and some available on campus. Online education means you can do your coursework whenever and wherever you choose. That flexibility allows you to be employed while advancing your career.

Practical Nursing Diploma

This 39-credit diploma prepares nurses to provide bedside care and interact closely with patients. Practical nurses care for ill, injured, or convalescing patients or persons in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private homes, group homes, and similar institutions. Tasks and activities for practical nurses may include: Administering medications; charting; dressing wounds; assisting in the delivery, care, and feeding of infants; sterilizing equipment and supplies; taking and recording patients’ vital signs.

Graduates are eligible to apply for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse, or LPN.

Medical Coding certification

This 29-credit certificate prepares graduates for entry-level medical coding positions or to advance their studies with a diploma or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in medical coding. The NTC Medical Coding programs provide training using nationally recognized coding systems to classify procedures and diagnoses related to medical treatment. Medical coders are needed for patient account management, medical billing and insurance claims processing.

Dental Assistant Diploma

Dental Assisting students gain technical knowledge and manual skills necessary to enter the dental profession as a chair-side clinician, assisting with a variety of clinical functions, laboratory tasks and business office responsibilities. Classroom and hands-on training will prepare students to perform procedures such as exposing radiographs, placing pit and fissure sealants, taking impressions and managing patient records. In addition, labs, internships and service learning activities offer students real-life experiences and interactions with patients and dental health care professionals. Dental assisting offers a 100% job placement rate as there is currently a shortage of dental assistants in every region of Minnesota.

LPN Step-In Track (AS)

This 64-credit Associate of Science (AS) degree is a three-semester step-in program for current Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who wish to become registered nurses (RNs). Graduates are eligible to apply for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Students may then transfer to Bemidji State University to pursue a Baccalaureate in Science (BS) in Nursing.

An RN is qualified to administer medications and treatment to patients, coordinate plans for patient care, perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, instruct patients on how to manage illnesses after treatment and oversee other workers such as LPNs, nursing aides, and home care aides.
