About

Make a difference in the health care industry with the 100% online Master of Science in Health Psychology (MSHP) degree program at National University. As a student, you’ll learn to apply psychological principles that can prevent illness, improve personal health outcomes, and impact healthcare systems.

Through NU’s MS in Health Psychology, you’ll focus on the psychological study of health and illness, along with recovery, from the perspective that these arise due to a combination of physical, behavioral, and social conditions. You’ll also take electives focused on topics such as substance abuse, collaborative care, community health, and wellness.

Our MS in Health Psychology online program prepares you for careers in education, the health and wellness industry, and other helping professions. An optional internship at the end of the program gives you the opportunity to apply your classroom studies to real-world situations.

This commitment is the foundation of our Whole Human Teaching and Learning philosophy which supports adult learners through prioritizing holistic educational practices to ensure that every student thrives academically, professionally and personally as lifelong learners.

Whole Human Teaching and Learning is defined by three core principles:

  • Holistic Engagement – A student-centric approach in which students are supported academically even when non-academic factors may impact learning. Students are engaged in a well-rounded learning experience that encourages active participation and a sense of belonging.
  • Accessibility – Ensuring that all students, regardless of background or ability, have access to learning through supportive and accessible teaching methods and design.
  • Effective Instructional Methods – Strategies used to enhance the student experience, meet student needs, and prioritize student success.

These principles, grounded in theoretical frameworks, are key to fostering the development of adult learners so they may feel heard, empowered, and valued. This holistic approach will support NU students to succeed in all aspects of life and contribute to the positive transformation of society.
