M State's Medical Administrative Assistant AAS prepares graduates to work in a variety of medical settings, handling all types of administrative duties for private practices, hospitals and clinics. The inclusion of liberal arts courses in the program prepares graduates to expand the traditional role of medical office assistants and move into leadership roles.

Program graduates are highly trained medical office specialists who are prepared to accept responsibility for the coordination of the medical office functions and patient billing processes that comprise the business of health care facilities. Successful medical administrative assistants have excellent communication skills and exhibit a high degree of professionalism.

M State has an articulation agreement with Minnesota State University Moorhead which allows graduates of the Medical Administrative Assistant AAS program to transfer 50 program credits into MSUM's bachelor's degree in Health Services Administration.

M State's 16-credit certificate program in Phlebotomy trains phlebotomy technicians to draw blood from patients for various laboratory tests and procedures needed as part of patient diagnosis and treatment.

The program, offered on our Fergus Falls campus, provides training in bedside testing and in computer and communication skills. Students learn the skills needed for employment in an outpatient clinic or hospital setting. The one-semester program includes a five-week clinical experience in an affiliate health care facility.

As a student in the HVAC/R program, you will gain the skills needed to begin a career in residential and light commercial heating, ventilation, ducting, air conditioning and refrigeration. The 35-credit diploma program is offered on the M State campuses in Moorhead and Wadena.

The comprehensive training - which includes shop skills in layout, estimating, installation and repair - will prepare you to enter an expanding industry with a broad range of employment opportunities.

As a graduate of the program, you can expand your career options by continuing your studies in the Advanced HVAC/R diploma program on our Moorhead campus.

The M State Health Information Technology/Coding program is committed to providing high quality and comprehensive education to prepare students for a rapidly changing profession. Our 64-credit online AAS degree in Health Information Technology/Coding prepares students for careers in health information management, where professionals care for patients by caring for their medical data.

Students combine health care and information technology into a career with tremendous potential driven by the conversion from paper records to electronic health records and growth throughout the health care industry.

Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification exam through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

At M State, you’ll gain the skills to develop and manage marketing campaigns that promote companies, products and services in the digital world by enhancing brand awareness, driving website traffic and acquiring customers.

The M State Dental Assisting program educates students to be essential members of dental health care teams. Students learn skills necessary to:

• Work closely with dentists during direct patient care, including diagnostic, preventive and operative procedures
• Manage business office responsibilities such as appointment scheduling and billing procedures
• Perform dental lab procedures
• Provide expanded functions authorized by the Minnesota Board of Dentistry such as taking digital dental x-rays, polishing teeth, placing dental sealants, fabricating temporary crowns, administering nitrous oxide sedation and orthodontic duties

The curriculum includes general education courses; biomedical and dental science courses; on-campus lab and clinical practice at our Moorhead campus; and off-campus clinical affiliations in general, community and specialty dental practices.

M State's Massage Therapy diploma program provides students with the skills and training to deliver professional massage treatments designed to support the health and well-being of clients. The growing awareness of the benefits of therapeutic massage mean expanding professional opportunities in this rewarding career.

Our 31-credit program is flexible, combining online courses with on-campus requirements in the student clinic on our Wadena campus. Students gain experience in the instructor-supervised clinic, and evening clinic hours make the program convenient for students with work and family commitments.

The Associate Degree Nursing program is designed for students with no previous nursing experience who are seeking to become registered nurses. Our Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena campuses offer the two-year Associate Degree Nursing program. The Associate Degree Nursing program is designed to prepare students to deliver nursing care in a variety of settings as registered nurses. The graduating nurse will be able to provide nursing care in hospitals, long-term care centers, clinics, community health and other health-related facilities. 

The Minnesota Board of Nursing has officially approved the Associate Degree Nursing program at M State.

Gain a fundamental knowledge of business functions, processes, and organizations in today’s global economy with our two-term Business Administration diploma program, a sound business education base for lifelong learning.

Coursework includes business concepts such as accounting, economics, management, marketing and sales. Skills related to the application of these concepts are developed through the study of computer applications, communication, critical thinking and decision-making.

This 33-credit diploma seamlessly integrates into either of the Business AAS or Management and Marketing AAS degree programs. It is offered on our Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls and Moorhead campuses, as well as online.
