CHCANYS Public Health AmeriCorps is a workforce development program dedicated to preparing AmeriCorps members for careers in public health and community-based primary health care, while addressing the most pressing health care needs in communities throughout New York State. AmeriCorps members serve in federally qualified Community Health Centers, performing direct service with patients and community residents thereby filling service gaps, increasing access to health care services, and improving utilization of services. Members provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services, tailored to meet the needs of the communities they serve. CHCANYS Public Health AmeriCorps members perform a 10-11-month term of service focused on addressing the most pressing health care challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Members are essential members of their Community Health Center team and a critical part of New York State’s effort to keep New Yorkers safe and stop the spread of COVID-19.
