Liberty’s online Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Social Studies Education 6-12 is a teaching licensure-track that gives students the specialized knowledge they need to teach government, history, and civics topics at the middle and high school levels. The content of this degree is designed to meet state licensure requirements for teaching middle grades and high school English in Virginia, allowing students to apply for reciprocity in other states. This program also meets standards set by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Students in the B.Ed. in Social Studies Education 6-12 will build on a foundation of teaching and education knowledge with specialized course content that prepares them to teach on all level-appropriate topics in social studies. Through this program, students will gain a foundation of knowledge in effective teaching techniques and practices while engaging in social studies topics such as European and U.S. history, geography, economics, and politics. Students will also gain hands-on experience in a classroom in their communities through a combined 240 hours of practicum and student teaching. With these skills, students will be prepared to pursue roles as licensed middle or high school social studies teachers, private school social studies teachers, history and civics curriculum coordinators, and history program directors.
