Liberty’s online Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in English as a Second Language Education P-12 is a teaching licensure-track that equips teachers with the specialized skills they need to teach students who are new to the English language. The content of this degree is designed to meet state licensure requirements for teaching English as a second language from primary school through high school in Virginia, allowing students to apply for reciprocity in other states. This program also meets standards set by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Students in the B.Ed. in ESL Education will build on a foundation of teaching and education knowledge with specialized course content that prepares them to teach English language skills and help new learners to adapt to an English-speaking classroom. Through this program, students will study essential topics of English grammar and language acquisition that will help them teach the English language in schools around the world. Students will also gain hands-on experience in a classroom in their communities through combined 240 credit hours of practicum and student teaching. With these skills, students will be prepared to pursue roles as licensed ESL teachers, head teachers at English language institutes, P-12 academic coordinators, and Teaching English as a second language (TESL) curriculum planners.
