The Certified Nursing Assistant class offered by Lake Michigan College - Benton Harbor Campus (LMC - BHC) is a great opportunity for those interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field. The class provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and is taught by experienced instructors. The class is conveniently located in Benton Harbor, MI and is a great way to get started in the healthcare field.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide primary care to clients of all ages in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, clinics, offices, nursing homes, home healthcare settings, schools, research facilities, or community agencies.
You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a plan of care for clients and assisting them in achieving their health goals through effective communication, decision-making, problem-solving, management, and technical skills. When providing direct patient care, you will observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress; assist physicians during treatments and examinations; administer medications; and assist in health promotion, convalescence, and rehabilitation.
The Basic Life Support Provider is a four (4) hour course that provides health care professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to perform CPR. Students will learn how to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies and how to properly use an automated external defibrillator (AED). American Heart Certification issued upon successful completion of the course. There is a maximum of 14 participants per session.
The Class A CDL class is in session five days a week for three weeks and will be held at the Niles campus. The first week is in the classroom and the second and third weeks are behind the wheel practicing maneuvers and operations.
In addition to a home study component, this program is divided into two areas. The classroom portion of the program begins with the basics of the trucking industry and preparation in obtaining a Commercial Learner Permit (CLP). It continues with vehicle familiarization, basic systems, Federal Motor Carrier Regulations, defensive driving, trip planning, map reading, and log-book instruction. This portion of the program allows students to get more in-depth knowledge of the trucking industry and truck operations.
Upon obtaining a CLP, a Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical and Drug Screen, and successful completion of the classroom portion of the program, students will proceed to skills training. Skills training concentrates on the proper techniques of urban, rural and highway driving and includes straight line backing, alley docking, safe turns, and vehicle inspection.
You will get to observe real-world driving situations, learn how to properly change lanes, downshift, upshift, and how to do traffic checks and other safe driving techniques, giving you the skills and confidence to handle a tractor-trailer in all driving conditions.
Students must obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical, Drug Screen, and their medical certification BEFORE they can register for the CDL class
The Advanced Certificate in Cybersecurity program is designed to provide foundational skills in Cybersecurity. The program includes basic instruction in computer architecture, programming, and systems analysis; networking; telecommunications; cryptography; security system design; applicable law and regulations; risk assessment and policy analysis; contingency planning; user access issues; investigation techniques; and troubleshooting.
The Medical Assistant certification program at Lake Michigan College - Benton Harbor Campus is a comprehensive, high-quality program designed to train and prepare students for an exciting career in the healthcare industry. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on practical experience, students will gain a deep understanding of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and administrative tasks essential to becoming a skilled medical assistant. The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program trains you to become a diagnostic medical sonographer. This 18-month, competitive-entry program admits a new student cohort once each year and begins coursework in the summer semester. You will obtain clinical experience at local healthcare facilities in addition to formal classroom instruction provided on-campus.
