This program prepares you to excel as a Phlebotomy Technician, teaching you how to accurately draw and prepare blood for medical purposes including testing, transfusions, and donations. The focus is on the mastery of essential procedures such as venipuncture, basic blood chemistries, blood specimen collection, and laboratory testing procedures.

Key Duties

Phlebotomy Technicians are trained to:

  • Assemble necessary equipment for blood drawing such as needles, tourniquets, gauze, and blood collection devices
  • Apply treatments to puncture sites post-blood collection
  • Label and store blood containers appropriately
  • Conduct medical testing procedures to screen blood samples
  • Gather patient information through interviews and record keeping

Course Content Participants will learn about:

  • Preparing patients before drawing blood
  • Drawing blood and labeling with appropriate patient information
  • Preparing blood and other specimens for testing
  • Explaining procedures to patients and answering their queries
  • Keeping accurate records on fluid specimens and tests
  • Maintaining medical equipment such as needles, test tubes, and blood vials

On completion of the course, you are prepared to work in hospitals, clinics, outpatient care facilities, diagnostic laboratories, blood donation centers, and doctors’ offices. This course includes an exam for nationally recognized certification.
