About

The Certified Medical Assistant program at “Genesis Medical Training Center” is combination of both online and classroom instruction with practical experience through an internship in a community-based medical practice or an Urgent Care. Students will complete 600 hours of Practical/Administrative knowledge in an online/classroom setting and 300 hours of clinical skills in an affiliated medical office or urgent care. Some of the job duties with respect to clinical knowledge and skills are taking medical histories, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examinations, assisting the physician during examinations, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens not limited to blood collection and performing electrocardiography. Moreover, students will also learn various methods of administering medications, and wound care and changing dressings. Some of the administrative duties include answering phone calls, welcoming patients, scheduling appointments, and updating and filling patients’ medical records. Furthermore, students will understand medical billing and coding, arranging for hospital admissions, handling correspondence, and bookkeeping. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 16 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 123,000 openings for medical assistants are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.
