The Associate of Science in Nursing (ASDN) is designed to provide students with basic nursing knowledge and skills to successfully assess, plan, and implement the care of patients. Florida Gateway College (FGC) offers a number of different degrees and certificates leading to professional licensure. Some professions require both a degree and the successful completion of additional criteria such as licensure exams, field placements, or clinical hours. This two-year, 60-credit-hour program provides students with essential courses in general education as well as the specific understanding of business functions required to manage a commercial organization. The A.S. program provides a comprehensive overview in an Introduction to Business course, as well as specific courses on marketing, accounting, supervision, and business law. The Practical Nursing (PN) program is a 12-month certificate program designed to prepare students for nursing employment in the healthcare field. This field includes employment in areas such as a doctor’s office, home health, the corrections system, or long-term care facilities. Graduates of this program contribute to the health and well-being of patients through direct patient care, administration of medication, and medical treatments. FGC’s NCLEX-PN first-time pass rates are consistently above state and national averages.
This 420-hour program is designed to prepare students who will have the responsibility of overseeing individuals who are awaiting trial, or who have been convicted of a crime and sentenced to serve time in jail, correctional institution, or prison. Significant time is spent preparing students to take the State of Florida FDLE Certification Examination. This is a 13-week full-time program.

Because of the common body of knowledge between the Practical Nursing program and the Registered Nursing program, it is possible for accepted Licensed Practical Nurses to complete the LPN-to-RN Bridge: Traditional Full-Time component in approximately three semesters. Completion of this component qualifies the student to take the national licensing exam to become a registered nurse.
FGC’s Commercial Heating and Air Conditioning Technology program prepares students for careers in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. The Phlebotomy Certificate is a 5.5 vocational credit, 165 clock-hour occupational certificate that can be obtained in one semester. The Phlebotomy Certificate prepares a student for employment as a phlebotomist. A phlebotomist obtains blood by venipuncture or skin puncture and is an integral part of a clinical laboratory.
The Medical Coder/Biller program is designed to prepare students for coding careers in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and insurance companies. Coding professionals read and analyze medical records, convert medical record data to diagnosis and procedure codes, and use codes to receive proper reimbursement for healthcare services.
The program content includes, but is not limited to, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding systems, fundamentals of disease processes, healthcare delivery systems, basics of medical records services, ethical and legal responsibilities, safety/security procedures, basic data processing, and employability skills. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) National Certification Exam offered through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

This course is part of a combined program but requires separate applications for fire and EMT. The EMT course prepares students for employment as emergency medical technicians to function at the basic pre-hospital emergency medical technician level and treat various medical and trauma conditions using appropriate equipment and materials. This program is approved by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. The curriculum adheres to the latest U.S. Department of Transportation EMT National Standard Curriculum. Upon completion, the student must be proficient in patient assessment and providing basic emergency medical care and will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam. Completing the EMT program is required prior to being accepted into the Paramedic Program.
The Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) program is offered online and is designed for the associate of science degree nursing (ASDN) graduate who has a current Registered Nursing (RN) license. Consistent with the mission of Florida Gateway College (FGC), the mission of the RN-BSN program is to prepare registered nurses with an affordable, high-quality, generalist baccalaureate nursing education to meet the present and future healthcare needs of their community and engage in life-long learning to advance the nursing profession. The program allows ASDN graduates to develop the skills necessary to prepare for leadership and administrative roles in coordinating and directing nursing practice and management of care teams.
The Nursing Assistant (Articulated) certificate program prepares the student with the knowledge, competencies, and requisites to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA) in a variety of acute and long-term healthcare facilities. The program is composed of two (2) courses designed to provide rigor and challenging academic standards that will prepare students for employability.
The program is a combination of classroom instruction (didactic and skills/simulation laboratory) and clinical practice in long-term and other healthcare facilities.
