The selection of courses and course sequences depends largely upon a student’s career choice. Counselors, instructional administrators and faculty advisor are available to counsel with each student, but it is the student’s final responsibility to choose her or his own course of study. Each of EMCC’s three Academic Divisions provides students ample opportunity to select coursework that will lead to an Associate of Arts Degree that prepares them for transfer to a university. What this means: If you plan to attend a senior college after EMCC, and already know what field you want to major in, we can recommend classes to take at EMCC that will be most useful to you.

Early College High Schools are small schools, usually located on a community college campus. The four-year program is designed to provide students who desire a non-traditional high school experience with the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and either a career technical certificate or an associate's degree. The students also have the option to earn up to two years of credit toward a bachelor's degree. Nationwide, there are more than 200 early colleges, but the Golden Triangle Early College High School (GTECHS) was the first early college model of its kind in Mississippi. GTECHS is a high school program currently partnered with the Noxubee County School District and the West Point Consolidated School District. It opened its doors on EMCC's Golden Triangle campus in August 2015. While traditional extra-curricular activities such as sports and band are not available at GTECHS, students can participate in activities at their home school districts.
