This course is for Certified Nursing Assistants whose certification has lapsed. This review course is designed to prepare students to take the NYS Certification Exam with a combination of academics and skills review. Students will register for the Prometric Exam after completion of this course, with an option to test at Dutchess BOCES.

Are you a backyard mechanic, artisan or do-it-yourselfer? Would you like to learn or improve your basic welding skills? Participants will receive differentiated instruction and hands-on practice in several welding techniques and immediate feedback for improving their skills. Best practices for safety will also be covered. Safety glasses will be provided.
Participants are required to wear work boots, appropriate welding jacket or shirt, safety glasses, helmet and welding gloves.
This is a career path course that will prepare students for career opportunities in the culinary industry. The class is a mixture of theory and hands-on work. Students will learn about baking and pastry, garde manager, fish/meat identification, bread making, fresh pasta and much more.
By the end of the class, students will be able to understand safety and sanitation in the kitchen, specific culinary tasks, and how to convert recipes and use specific baking techniques. Students who have completed this course will be prepared to work in a restaurant, bakery or café,
The ServSafe Food Handlers Course is part of the curriculum. Completing the mandated amount of hours required will enable students to become ServSafe Certified upon passing the examination.
Students are required to come to class prepared and in the proper attire each day.
English as a Second Language (ESL) and High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation and testing (GED) are offered at various locations throughout Dutchess County. There is a one-time registration fee of $10 for ESL and HSE courses. ESL courses are inperson. HSE courses are virtual* or in person. You must be at least 18 and no longer enrolled in High School courses to register for our Adult Literacy Courses. Get CPR certified – and be prepared for the moments that matter. This 4-hour course covers CPR for emergencies with adults, children, and infants. During this course developed by the American Red Cross you can expect to learn how to identify breathing, cardiac, and first aid emergencies and respond appropriately until professional help arrives. After completing this course, students will be prepared to provide assistance when someone is faced with a cardiac or breathing emergency. This CPR certification course satisfies OSHA-mandated job requirements, workplace or other regulatory requirements. Students must participate and be present during the entire class time to become certified.
This 8-hour training is a prerequisite for New York State Security Guard licensing. The Division of Criminal Justice has approved this course for students who are interested in working as security guards or acting in security functions. Students must pass the Security Guard test in order to receive a certificate of completion. Topics include: An introduction to the 1992 Security Guard Act, Conduct and ethics, The role of the security guard, Legal powers and limitations, Access control. All students MUST bring their Social Security card to the first class.
Prepare to be a nursing assistant who provides quality care in settings such as nursing homes and hospitals. Develop basic nursing assistant skills through lectures, laboratory practice, and clinical experience. After 120 hours of classroom work, students will experience 30 hours of required clinical experience. Excellent attendance is required.
The Welding certification program at Dutchess BOCES Adult Learning Institute is designed to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the welding industry. The program spans over 10 weeks and covers various welding techniques, ranging from MIG to TIG to Stick welding. Upon completion of the program, participants receive a Welding certification, enabling them to pursue various welding jobs in the industry.
