Once you are a Certified Nurse Aide and want to become a Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA), you can take a Conversion Class for 10 hours to get your CHHA License. Administrative Assistants tasks consist of keeping medical records, greeting patients, billing and clerical duties, scheduling appointments, arranging admission to the hospitals and laboratory service. Administrative Assistants help in checking supplies, but mainly concentrate on medical terminologies, medical ethics and OSHA regulations, computer skills/training, medical records, management, patient charting, billing practices and insurance filing procedures.
Medical Billing & Coding professionals keep records, calculate patient charges and review files. Duties include reviewing records, calculating changes to patient procedures and services and prepare itemized statements and submitting claims to their party payees. Certified Specialists also determine codes for physician's procedures and diagnosis ICD-9 and CPT-4 protocols for third party billing purposes. Students go through an externship in a doctor's office, clinics, hospitals or laboratories. The student will gain an understanding of medical insurance and completing medical insurance forms, the roles of a medical office team, and the principles of procedure and diagnosis coding.
This course introduces students to patient preparation, EKG machines, performing and mounting of 12 lead, single channel EKG tracings. Review of the cardiovascular system and related terminology. Emphasis on basic rhythm identification and possible diseases are studied. This class brings together anatomy and physiology of the cardiac system with how it pertains to the electrocardiograph procedure. The student will learn to successfully perform and mount an EKG. The recognition of abnormal EKG's and classification of heart diseases will also apply. Students are required to complete 100 hours of internship/externship, after which they will receive their certificate of completion. Once the student successfully completes the program he/she will be eligible to sit for the NHA competency test for EKG technician and be certified in CPR as a healthcare provider.
A Home Health Aide assists with healthcare in a patient’s home, day service program or group home. They may visit the patient each day in a part-time or full-time position, or they might live with the patient. Home Health Aides help with a variety of tasks, including primary healthcare duties, changing patients and preparing and feeding them meals. They work with many types of patients, including those with cognitive impairments, physical limitations or chronic ailments. Aides may also maintain and update home healthcare records for insurance purposes.
