Overview

Columbia Southern University’s online A.S. in military studies was designed to develop the analytical, critical-thinking, creative-thinking and decision-making skills of current and future military service members in both military and homeland security settings. Graduates may apply these skills toward careers within the military service and civilian industries including law enforcement, homeland security, intelligence, military contracting and more. This degree program incorporates multiple areas of study including military problem-solving and leadership, military logistics, homeland security and military operations.

Multiple factors, including prior experience, geography and degree field, affect career outcomes. CSU does not guarantee a job, promotion, salary increase, eligibility for a position, or other career growth.

Program Description

The Associate of Science Degree in Military Studies (ASMS) provides students with foundational military leadership competencies which prepare graduates for success in their current and/or future military career. The ASMS aids in the development of student analytical, critical-thinking, creative-thinking, and decision-making skillsets in complex military and homeland security –related environments. Students who earn this degree may be interested in pursuing advancement in military service and/or careers in fields such as homeland security, law enforcement, emergency management, crisis management, and more.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students should be able to do the following:

• Explain direct operational planning and problem-solving strategies for military and civilian leaders.
• Analyze counter-terrorism strategies within the United States and abroad.
• Explore fundamental leadership practices that will enhance critical thinking skillsets.
• Examine military logistics in support of combat theater operations and disasters.
