Further your knowledge with Continuing Education! Expanding our knowledge is a key factor in our job performance. Once you receive your Home Care Aide Certification from the State of Washington you must complete 12 hours of Continuing Education every year before your birthday. Columbia Safety offers the 12 hours in a two-day course. In our two-day continuing education program you will be able to complete the 12 hours needed to meet Washington State requirements to keep your HCA current. These courses will change each year for a variety of new training in different aspects of your career.

The Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Course is designed to teach individuals the basics of the Emergency Medical Services profession. Once accepted, the student will learn; the foundations of being an EMT, anatomy and physiology, roles/responsibilities, medical and trauma responses, patient assessments, airway management, proper lifting techniques, documentation, communication, and post-transport debriefing. This course meets the Washington State Department of Health requirements for EMT certification. The course duration is approximately 3 months. Graduates of this program will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT certification examination.

The Heartsaver Total course path of the Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED Online course is taught in a blended learning format. Students must complete the online portion, followed by the hands-on skills session conducted by an American Heart Association Training Center Instructor. Students who successfully complete the online course and skills session (sold separately), will receive a Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course Completion card, valid for two years. Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED provides students the highest quality training in the lifesaving skills of first aid, CPR, and use of an AED. This course empowers students to act with confidence in the event of an emergency at work, home, or in the community. The Heartsaver Total – Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online is a comprehensive course path designed for those requiring training to meet OSHA or other regulatory agency requirements.

The pandemic threw us all for a loop and now it’s hard to climb back up. Columbia Safety rescues you with a 16-hour skills refresher course that is 2 days in length. 2 days at 8 hours a day we will be doing skills and perfecting your technique!

The “Bridge” Nursing Assistant training program is a way for Home Care Aides-Certified (HCA-C) to become Nursing Assistant-Certified (NAC). The Bridge is a small specialized course that caps out at 10 students. This course is 24-hours: 8 hours of classroom, 8 hours of skills lab, and 8 hours of clinical rotation. The focus of the Bridge is to provide the skills and knowledge needed to become a NAC that is not included in HCA-C training. Classes are held at Columbia Safety Training Center. After passing the Bridge program, students receive a certificate of completion. Students are then eligible to take the state competency test to become a Nursing Assistant Certified.

This 45-hour Paramedic Refresher Course is designed to assist paramedics in maintaining up-to-date proficiency in critical knowledge and skills pertinent to providing emergency care in the field. The program adheres to the refresher program standards set forth by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Registry of EMTs NCCP model. Participants must complete 20 hours of distributive education and the 25 hours of in class skills and lectures, to receive a completion certificate. Materials will be sent to the student after they have registered for the course.

The PALS Provider Course aims to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high‐performance team dynamics and high‐quality individual skills. The course includes a series of case scenario practices with simulations that reinforce important concepts. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students must pass the multiple-choice exam with a minimum score of 84%.
