Coahoma Community College’s Commercial Truck Driving program in Clarksdale, Mississippi, prepares individuals to operate tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles. Training covers diesel-powered vehicle operation, cargo loading and unloading, road delays and accident reporting, shipping-record verification, and required records. The program prepares students for the Department of Transportation Commercial Driver Written Examination and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). It runs for eight weeks and combines classroom instruction with actual road driving. Instruction includes Department of Transportation rules and regulations, safety, shifting, logbooks, paperwork, map reading, and cargo handling. Students complete at least 20 contact hours of driving with varied loads, roads, and driving conditions.
