Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is an advanced cardiac course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. At Fire District 5, we offer the ACLS Provider two day course, ACLS renewal one day course, and an ACLS skills only option. All courses are designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to be both a team member and a team leader in either an in-hospital or out of hospital setting.
The BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR course is designed for Healthcare Professionals. This course teaches one and two-person CPR/AED, airway maneuvers and more in depth instruction for the adult, child, and infant patient. At Fire District 5, we offer the BLS Provider & BLS Renewal courses.
The Pediatric Advanced Life Support course offers the advanced healthcare provider a comprehensive understanding of treating a critically ill pediatric patient. At Fire District 5, we offer PALS Provider 2 day course, PALS Renewal one day course and a PALS skills only option; all of which teach to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.
The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This person possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency medical technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency medical technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance or fire apparatus. The emergency medical technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. At Fire District 5, we offer a hybrid online model using a learning management system and online testing, as well as in-person hands on skills. The course is designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to be a team member in and out of the hospital setting. This course meets the Washington State Department of Health requirements for EMT certification. Course duration is approx. 3 months. Also, this is the first step in acquiring the Paramedic certification.
