The Certificate in Pharmacy Technician program provides you with the knowledge and technical skills needed for an entry-level position in pharmacy technology. Through classroom instruction and hands-on labs, you'll learn essential tasks such as calculating drug dosages, identifying sterile and nonsterile products, preparing dosage forms, and utilizing computer technology to enhance your employability. 

Pharmacy Technician Certifications

  • To work as a Pharmacy Technician, you must pass a national exam administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). 

Pharmacy Technician Externship Requirement

  • As part of the Certificate in Pharmacy Technician training program, you'll be required to complete a 180-hour internship in a sponsored pharmacy facility under the supervision of a site supervisor. 
  • Prior to starting your internship, you must fulfill the program requirements, including completing 63 credit hours in the Pharmacy Technician program and demonstrating program competencies to the lead instructor.
  • You'll also need to be licensed as a Pharmacy Assistant by the Washington Department of Health, Board of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission.

Program Outcomes

  • Demonstrate the necessary skills and procedures required of pharmacy technicians as defined by state and local regulations and licensure requirements.
  • Explain the knowledge, skills, and professional behavior necessary to perform as a competent entry-level pharmacy technician in various settings.
  • Identify and describe the legal and ethical standards, guidelines, and regulations relevant to the pharmacy field and pharmacy technicians.
