Clinical Phlebotomy

The Phlebotomy Institute of Central PA is dedicated to providing you the education, knowledge and hands-on experience to enter into the workforce prepared to be an intergal part of a healthcare team! The program titled Clinical Phlebotomy will provide instruction in the proper technique of how to collect blood samples using venipuncture, capillary puncture procedures. Non-blood specimen collections are also discussed. Instruction will include how to properly and safely use needles, lancets and butterflies to collect samples, as well as the different types of collection tubes to use for the appropriate tests. Basic specimen preparation, patient (customer) interactions and confidentiality issues are addressed. A diploma will be issued upon successful completion of the course. The course objective is to prepare students to gain employment as entry-level phlebotomists. Students successfully completing the course are eligible to sit for a certification exam offered by National Healthcareer Association. Clock hours are non-transferable. Classes will be offered semi-annually in March and September.

The American Heart Association BLS Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies and to, give high-quality chest compression, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. This course is for EMTs, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also must complete a written exam.

After successful completion of this course you will receive an American Heart Association BLS Provider card. This certification is good for 2 years from the completion date of the course.

The Emergency Medical Technician course teaches students the overall roles and responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician, an overview of anatomy and physiology, assessment of injuries and illnesses, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), control of bleeding and shock, care of musculoskeletal injuries, medical emergencies, childbirth, pediatric emergencies, environmental emergencies, lifting and moving of patients, automated external defibrillation, and assisting patients with their own prescribed medications. Also included are the skills needed to assess the scene and properly move and transport patients to the emergency department.
