Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania
The CCEMT-P course is designed to prepare paramedics and nurses to function as members of a critical care transport team. The program bridges the gap between pre-hospital and in hospital care; resulting in a specialized provider who has both the understanding of the aspects of caring for a critically ill patient and has the ability to provide the highest level of care to the critically ill patient during transport. The class meets for two (2) weeks everyday from 8am to 6pm. There will be one weekend day off between weeks. Most classes take place at or near the Center for Emergency Medicine Office of Education in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, PA.
The Center for Emergency Medicine has been offering Paramedic education for nearly 40 years. During that time our program has undergone numerous changes from curriculum to faculty. One constant has remained the ability to educate competent entry level paramedics who are able to meet the needs of the ever changing field of prehospital care. The faculty of the Center for Emergency Medicine consists of experienced educators, prehospital providers, registered nurses, and emergency physicians. We have developed the Center’s Paramedic education program to equip students with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to develop as medical professionals. Throughout the program, students receive instruction in the art and science of emergency medicine through lecture, lab, and clinical education in the hospital and field. The curriculum involves students in these components of education concurrently. This enables paramedic students to master theory and practical application quickly. All of the Center’s Paramedic Education programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to provide high quality emergency medical care. Paramedic Education at the Center has received national recognition for its innovative, comprehensive, and well-rounded approach to the education of professionals in out-of-hospital medicine.
This course is intended for nurses, paramedics, EMT’s, physicians and other healthcare professionals who require advanced CPR knowledge. Students will be trained in the following skills: CPR for Adults, Children and Infants, use of an AED, rescue breathing and obstructed airway management. To determine proficiency with the skills learned in this course, students will be asked to take a written evaluation and demonstrate CPR.
As an emergency vehicle operator, you face distractions and hazards that other drivers never encounter. With the siren screaming and lights flashing, you weave around traffic and squeeze through narrow spaces all the while keeping an ever watchful eye on other vehicles and pedestrians. You concentrate on your driving while paramedics care for the patient enroute, but his condition and urgent need for added medical attention heightens your stress. It is your responsibility to reach the nearest health care facility quickly and safely. Intense emergency driving demands expert training, and the Center for Emergency Medicine’s Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) can prepare you for the road. EVOC is a two-day course designed for anyone interested in operating an ambulance safely and efficiently. Students will receive lecture and experience hands-on driving practice on a specially-designed course. This course is taught with the most current VFIS curriculum.
The 2024 Paramedic National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) requires 30 hours of National content and 30 hours of individual/state content. This course will cover 30 hours of National content only. Providers must complete the additional 30 hours of individual/state content on their own. For more information on the NREMT recertification process please visit www.nremt.org. While ideal for the purpose of remediation, the Paramedic Refresher course is not intended to expand the cognitive or psychomotor ability above the entry level. Therefore, refresher courses should not be considered a means of continued expansion of cognitive information and introduction of new psychomotor skills. The Paramedic Refresher course is intended to deliver relevant, contemporary information to practitioners who are currently active in the field.
