An Emergency Medical Technician determines the nature and extent of their patient’s condition and looks for any pre-existing conditions that might exist. Following local protocol and medical direction, the Emergency Medical Technician will give appropriate emergency medical care and transport the patient when needed. This medical care includes managing respiratory, cardiac, trauma, and many medical emergencies. To assist the student with reaching this goal, this program combines general education with program specific lecture, lab, and clinical courses.
Upon successful completion of the Basic Emergency Medical Technician certificate program, the student will be eligible to participate in the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician examination. Successful completion of this program and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination will qualify the student to apply for state licensing. In Michigan, this licensing is awarded by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Emergency Medical Technician, Trauma and Preparedness.

The Practical Nursing (PN) program equips students with the skills needed for employment as a nurse within a year. Practical nursing is a three semester program, and those who complete the program are awarded a Practical Nursing Certificate. Graduates will also meet the educational requirements to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN) upon completion.
