Daytona State’s Dental Assisting students train using the latest technology available and can seamlessly apply their skills in the workplace. Graduates earn the Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (E.F.D.A.) credential required by the state of Florida and are eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board examination to obtain the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential.
The Medical Assisting program provides students with training in the multi-skilled field of medical assisting. Students need to possess the ability to work with all types of people, be a team player, have good communication skills (written and verbal), and be flexible and motivated.
Students will gain knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacology, Coding and Billing, as well as Clerical/Administrative skills for the clinical setting. Clinical experiences are provided for the students in physician’s offices, ambulatory care centers, and multi-physician clinics. Upon completion of the program the students are eligible for credentialing by the (AAMA) American Association of Medical Assistants using the initials CMA.
Our Phlebotomy Program is a vocational certificate program which lasts only 8 weeks, and is offered in both the Spring and Fall semesters, totaling 165 contact hours. The first 4 weeks consists of lecture and laboratory at our Daytona Beach campus, with the following four weeks at local clinics and hospitals practicing the art of phlebotomy under direct supervision of an experienced phlebotomist.
This Course reviews the main features of EKG tracings. The course covers anatomy and physiology of the heart analyzing the different heart rhythms to include. This method includes assessment of rhythm, calculating the heart rate, observing P-wave forms, measurement of EKG intervals and segments and the evaluation of other relevant waves.
Basic Life Support is commonly referred to as CPR. This is a 4- hour class for health care professionals or the standard layperson looking to learn the skills of lifesaving CPR. Anyone is eligible to take this course and the certification is issued from the American Heart Association and will remain valid for two years.
This program is designed for the student seeking employment as an office administration specialist. It provides a solid foundation in computer operations, word processing software, and office procedures. The student develops business communication, computation, computer software application and office management skills. This college credit certificate is articulated into the AS degree in Office Administration.
The program provides a solid foundation in the principles of air conditioning and refrigeration. Instruction is given by classroom demonstrations and laboratory experiments in refrigeration fundamentals; electricity and controls; and installing, operating, servicing and repairing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Students work on commercial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, including heat pumps, ice machines, oil and gas systems. Students will design, construct, and evaluate refrigeration systems. State of the art, modern equipment with all of the commonly used refrigerants is available for students to gain "hands-on" experience. Students also receive related training in shop management and customer relations.
