Medical Billing and Coding specialists are primarily responsible for billing patients’ insurance for various procedures. They also verify coverage and eligibility for certain medical services. This position has little to no patient contact. Most contact is with insurance companies over the phone or electronic billing software. Our program combines classroom instruction with actual practical training in our computer laboratory, where you will learn how to perform various tasks associated with Billing and Coding. The Certified Billing and Coding Specialist program has a strong classroom component with hands on billing practice using CPT coding handbooks. Billing & Coding Specialists have an expansive range of opportunities for employment. The skills learned through the NHA CBCS certification are essential to hospitals, physician offices, surgery centers, nursing homes, dental offices, home healthcare agencies, mental health facilities and even insurance companies and consulting firms. The Certified Medical Billing and Coding Program spans 13 weeks. The course is designed to prepare graduates for work in a clinical setting where Billing and Coding tasks are performed, however graduates must be prepared to gain experience as a medical biller and possibly acquire additional certifications to be considered for coding positions. The program culminates with a final written exam.
