The EMT certificate is designed to meet some of the academic prerequisites of the Emergency Medicine Paramedic Program. The EMT 1200 course can be completed as a standalone course for students to become licensed EMTs.

The EMT Program is delivered through a combination of classroom instruction (didactic and psychomotor) and clinical experience. Upon successful completions of examinations and other licensure requirements, the student will be eligible for the State of Tennessee EMT license. The EMT renders life support to patients at the scene of their injuries or illnesses and prepares these patients for transport to the hospital.

Temple’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program is a six-credit course designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide basic life support emergency care. The EMT course is held in a traditional setting, where material is taught in a dynamic classroom environment and hands-on skills are heavily integrated. Students will utilize an assigned textbook and associated interactive supplements to complete readings, assignments, presentations and psychomotor skills. Students will complete field clinical hours with affiliated prehospital and hospital facilities. Throughout the course, and through the application of skills in the classroom and clinical setting, students will become competent in performing the minimum job competencies of an emergency medical technician providing Basic Life Support (BLS) care.

Congreso recognizes the important role that Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) serve in our communities and the need for quality, equitable, and accessible training. In partnership with All-State Career School, our program trains those who dream of a career in emergency medical services with the required education to obtain the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification. Our program is 100% in person – students travel to All-State Career School 3 days/week and to Congreso’s Training Center 2 days/week. Upon successful completion of the classroom portion of training, all students participate in a two-week externship to receive hands-on training and insight into the role of an EMT.
