Applicants must be employed as certified nurse aides listed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry in active status and currently employed in a facility licensed under Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 242 on class start date or employed on class start date as non-licensed direct care staff in a facility licensed under Chapter 247; a state supported living center or ICF/IID and have 90 days previous employment in the year preceding the class start date.

The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) class at Texas Career Institute (TCI) in Dallas/Fort Worth provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively administer medications to patients in long-term care facilities. The program is designed to prepare students to become certified medication aides in the state of Texas. The course covers topics such as medication administration, medication safety, and the legal and ethical responsibilities of medication aides.

The Medication Aide Training Course at CE Global offers you the opportunity to become adept at medication handling, administration , and medication management for seniors, the ailing and the disabled.

Upon successful completion of the Medication program, the students becomes eligible to take the Texas Certified Medication exam and like the Nurses Aide Program, successful students are enlisted into the Texas State Registry.

Medication Aides are persons permitted by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services to administer medications to residents in:

• Nursing facilities,
• Intermediate care and community-based facilities for people who are mentally retarded,
• Correctional institutions, and
• Assisted living (personal care) facilities.

Medication Aide is a person who is trained in a licensed School and certified by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services to administer medication to residents in the following areas.

• Nursing facilities
• Correctional institutions
• Assisted Living Facilities
• Intermediate care and community based facilities for residents that are mentally challenged.

After successfully completion of the program, the student will take Medication Aide State exam and when he or she passes the student name will be listed in the Texas State Registry.

The Medication Aide Training program prepares students for a career in passing medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse through comprehensive instruction necessary to succeed as a Medication Aide under the guidance and supervision of qualified instructors.

Medication Aides administer oral and topical medications to residents. These tasks are performed as ordered by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations, and consistent with facility policies

The Medication Aide Training Program is a comprehensive course designed for Certified Nurse Aides and people that have worked in assisted living for at least 12 months prior with duties as personal care giver.  The program is designed to teach students the skills and abilities essential to administer medications for the provision of basic care to residents in long-term care facilities.

Must work as a CNA in long term care by day 1 of class or be an unlicensed caregiver for at least 90 days in the past year

CTK's Medication Aide class is solid. It is 8 weeks long, and they have the option for students to take it in the daytime or in the evening part-time. The class is hybrid (part online and part in-person), and is 8 weeks long.

Medication Aide prepares certified nursing assistants (CNA) for administering daily medication to patients in a hospital or medical facility. Also referred to as medical aide technicians, their duties include monitoring patients, reporting changes, and collecting samples.
